Answered: Polypaint > Texture Map

Hello dears!
I just started zbrush two days ago, spent 7 hours making a model and then 7 more being stuck on the same problem. I was hoping you could help me out, especially since it probably has a really simple solution.

So I made this model - made with dynamesh (although deactivated now), no subdivision levels, painted with polypaint. I’d like to turn the polypaint into a texture map so that I can export it to Cinema 4D, but all tutorials I can find refer to a texture submenu in the tools menu, and I don’t know if it’s because of the version (4R4) or what else, but I just have a Texture Map menu and a separate texture menu above the working area, and neither of those have the option to turn off UV maps or Clr > Txtr. The logical solution would be to use Tools > Texture Maps > Create > New From Polypaint, but for reasons unknown that option is greyed out.

If there’s any way to just turn the polypaint into an uv map, of course that would be welcome as well.

Thank you in advance!!

The tutorials you’re reading are out of date. Functions have been moved to make more sense. For example, UV mapping affects more than just the texture map. For that reason, the UV mapping options are in the new Tool >> UV Map sub-palette. (There’s also now UV Master, found in the Zplugin palette. Instructions for it are found in your ZBrush installation’s Documentation folder.)

After UV mapping, to convert the PolyPaint to texture you use the Tool >> Texture Map >> Create >> New From Polypaint button. Just as you expect. But it’s grayed out so long as your model doesn’t have UV’s.

Sorry for the late reply! Yeah, I finally managed to work it out, thank you so much!
