While 4r8 introduces a few features that really liven up the toolbox, there are a few quirks with the interface which have been bugging me somewhat.
One of the big ones is when switching back to the classic transpose tool from the new gizmo (which takes a little getting used to as the gizmo’s orientation behaves strangely but is otherwise very functional and a blessed addition) the inflate feature when right-clicking the out-most circle doesn’t work anymore. Instead it just rotates the mesh. With the gizmo, just gotta say that when moving a subtool around, it doesn’t make sense to have to center to the mask while unmasked to keep the gizmo centered on the mesh. I’ve tried the lock/unlock button on it. Doesn’t appear to make any difference to anything, but I can just as easily rule it as not fully understanding the tool. All the same, I can make it do what I need.
We confirm the issue.
The IMM sub-palette seems to be a nice feature for folks who are interested. As I would rather use the M hotkey instead of cluttering up the UI more, I just disable that feature. Problem is, the preference change never saves and it’s reappearing every time I restart Zbrush. I have tried fully uninstalling and re-installing just to make sure the installation is clean and there has been no changes to the behavior.
It is a known issue. Same with the location IMM viewer preference.
Those are my major concerns as of right now. A few nitpicks though:
Please make the confirmation pop-up go away when activating dynamic subdivision. It’s a non-destructive feature and shouldn’t warrant a warning unlike something like merging subtools which pretty much is un-doable afterwards.
As you can imagine, it is on purpose. So many users complained about slow performances because they enabled by default the Dynamic Subdivision without noticing it.
In principle, news and helpful hints popups when starting a program are always the first thing I turn off. It’s basically an annoying billboard that’s getting in the way of me and art-making. There’s no means I’ve found to turn off the news pop-up (the preference) but it does have the option to only show up if there’s a news update (the compromise). Yet, when I set that option, it still shows up anyway even though it appears to have saved the setting. I suspect the setting isn’t actually affecting any variable in the script.
I can’t reproduce the issue. I don’t remember seeing someone else having this issue as well. Would you mind opening a ticket at the support about this issue and asking to have it assigned to Thomas.
Now this is a really small thing, I know, but I’ve noticed with the Zmodel brush, the default behavior for inserting edgeloops went from the single edgeloop to multiple edgeloops. Coming from a Maya background, the single loop method is preferential so I bring that up at the risk of sounding like a complainer
It’s a mistake from us (well me!). To solve this issue, just load the brush after starting ZBrush, set the Insert Edge Loop Action to Single EdgeLoop, then save the brush and overwrite the original one in ZBrush/ZData/BrushPresets/
All in all, I love the boolean options as well as the new transform options found with the gizmo. Haven’t experimented with any of the newer curve and alpha options yet, but I am eager to see how they perform. Lazymouse 2.0 has improvements I never knew I wanted til they were added!
I appreciate all you do, Pixologic. Keep it up (b^_^)b
