Another free modeller

Here is another free modeller by the name of Wings.

The model in the image is modelled in Wings and textured and rendered in Vue. The complete process taking less than an hour.

It can be downloaded from : http://www.wings3d.com/

I’m currently giving it a test run.
And so far I have found it to be a really nice modelling applications.

And as I said…it’s free.

If you whant to give it a try and are running windows then:
Goto: http://www.erlang.org/download.html
And download and install the file R8B-0 by clicking the yes link under Windows binary in the table. This is something like the Java Virtual machine that you need to run Java but in this case it is installed so that you can run ERLANG programs.

Then goto: http://www.wings3d.com/
At the bottom of the left colum you will find the Headline ‘Pre-built Windows Version’ klick the link with the text ‘Download Wings 3D 0.86.04 for Windows’. Download and install. Now you should be able to run the Wings 3D modeller.

For some documentations goto: http://www.erlang.org/project/wings/userguide/index.html

It looks a little like Nendo, which I did try when first looking at ZBrush. I must admit coming from conventional sculpting, I found ZBrush the most like normal modelling. The only sort of 3D graphics I’ve generaly used outside of ZB, has been e.g., Vue d’Sprit. Thanks for the info though.

Actually Wings is a “xerox” of Nendo.
The author couldn’t get Nendo, so he wrote Wings.

It’s a nice functioning piece of software.

I thought about downloading Wings, but decided against it due to the erlang download requirement.

But I have to say the author did a great job of facsimilating Nendo! :+1:

Believe it or not, Alias Wavefront is going to be releasing a free version of MAYA come Feburary, but it seems to be only for the MacOSX, and it produces a visable watermark on the final images.

Upham

Thanks for the heads-up, Upham. It’ll be a cool new Birthday Present for me!

Kathy, what do you mean, “the author couldn’t get Nendo”? Couldn’t grasp it, or obtain it? I downloaded the demo (only 6.11Mb)two days ago and it’s only $99 to buy the full version. It can be found here at Izware’s website.

It’s a pretty neat looking piece of software and might make a pretty good companion to Zbrush. There are some scripts included that are pretty elaborate, like the truck. Kinda like watching a Zscript, but not as many controls or interactivity, I think. I haven’t had much time to play with it or anything else lately.

ZBrushCentral’s own Ken Brilliant has some of his work displayed there, in the Nendo and Mirai galleries. Damn fine looking work it is, too. Downright awesome.

Never mind. A little more research has shown me what you already knew. Nendo is sort of unobtainium right now, along with Mirai, because of the mysterious disappearance of the company who makes it. Too bad. That demo is really cool.

Still no where NEAR as cool as Zbrush, though!

But would make a nice companion piece to it, though

Izware was down and impossible to work.
Nendo co. CSR are…gone.

So he just started writing his own.

The trades (online) are hinting nendo is out of cash and out of backers and they are trying to sell. But that’s gossip amongst hardcore users and project managers.
