Amateur goes Zbrush3

Hi

im 32, from Switzerland, my hobby is 3d modelling since i got my hands on 3D Studio 3 very long time ago.

But the only thing i ever finished was a clanlogo, but i dont have that anymore lol.
but i started like 100 things, Like a Stadion a House some cars watches and a Bike. I stopped work on them cause i never could reach the level of detail or quality i had in my mind. When i found Rhino (excellent for modeling technical things) i tried again to make a car and a bike, but getting problems with the polycount in 3dStudio cause of my home pc^^. so again i coudnt reach the details i wanted.
so i starded to try organic modeling for the first time. ending up extremly frustrated after days of moving dots and polygons. the result was discusting. So i gave up the 3D modeling.

but 3 weeks ago i accidently endet up in the wrong video on youtube. Speedmodeling in Zbrush. so i took a look  i was like what the hell, the guy is doing what i always wanted to do in 3d studio.

so i got Zbrush and tried it out  and finaly i am able to get the details i wanted, i can have my skin wrinkles and even the skin pores are in 3D, amasing.

First i tried a fantasy monster (easier, noone knows how they look :stuck_out_tongue: ). A Basilisk, zpheres are great

but do to my noobiness i runned out of polygons, even after upgrading ram to 4 gig i could get subdiv 7 but still not enough for the detaisl, but i got to much polys on spots i want less. messed up topolygy and even mapping is messed up after exporting to 3ds.

so i started something new.
i wanted to see if i can make the human muscels. thanks to zb i can

started with that  you all know him :stuck_out_tongue:

endet up this

now i tried something i never dear before. making own textures, i never ever thaught i could make a human skin. im technical 2d/3d drawer (ore something like that) and far away from an artist.

Zbrush helped me, and i think its not too bad.

after reading that professionals read and write here i thaught i can get some critics from pros
cause when showing them to ppl without modeling or CG knowledge, they are just amazed, thats thanks to zbrush  but pros see where i went wrong, what i didnt do good  thx

Welcome to Z Aanth. I have a feeling we will see more from you. Great start :):+1:

Hi Aanth and welcome to zbrush as well.
I love the way you did the kickboxer and you seem keen to keep details and make it look as accurate as you can. All i would recomend is that since you can use 3dmax and rhino and you want to do amazing work is to learn displacement maping it helps so much as I love zbrush3 out of all my tools, mudbox cant touch it never… but i hate the renders, If you got 3d max you could do the basic mesh in max, import to zbrush subdevide and detail it export your displacement maps and texture and obj into max for rendering and you will make the kind of stunning work i think you are talking about.starting with displacement maping is a bit tricky but so worth it.There is a cool guy called jason welsh think hes called canned mushroom in this forum but his site house of tutorials is a cool place to start loads of videos to help.also the zbrush wikki has a section telling you how to use displacement maps for your particular application.
hope this helps and keep up yhe cool work it looks truly amazing : ))

thx for your comments.

i devo gonna render it in 3DS, but i need to do some turorials first, i have some troubles with mapping. when i render him ins 3DS with the zb dispmap, he is looking like a sumofighter. his whole body is blowed up, something is wrong, coudnt find out yet. but im sure its just some stupid little option i dont know :stuck_out_tongue:

but at the moment im still learing so much in ZB3, i started to creat a part of the envoirment (boxingring), the kickboxer scene has already 19m points^^
