Alphas not covering my brush strokes

Hi, I am using a variety of alphas, and my problem is, when I use the rectangular/drag stroke on a curved surface ) displacement strokes) , my stroke doesn’t cover the entire area, in other words, it will cover over part of the destination area, but some strokes that were already on my model, cover my strokes. I have used homemade alphas, and those within Zbrush. If I am not clear, please see screen shot, thank you, Craig12%20PM%20copy

Hi Craig!

Some notes.

  • The target surface is uneven. This may affect what detail gets drawn out. Areas at different angles/elevations may receive different amounts of detail. Draw out your alpha on a flat surface. If it performs well there, you’ll know what your issue is.

  • Have you tried a different brush to apply your alpha? They all behave differently. The standard brush and the layer brush should be adequate for most alpha application–I would avoid most others for alpha stamping.

  • For the purposes of troubleshooting, please make sure you are using one of the stock brushes at default settings, and not a custom made brush. A custom brush could have been modified in any number of problematic ways.

  • There is a radial fade towards the edges on many brushes. Detail further from the center will be slighter. You can reduce this effect with the brushs’s Focal Shift slider.

If this doesn’t help you sort it out, we’ll need more information. Brush being used, any changes to the alpha itself in the alpha menu, a picture of the actual alpha and a description of how it was created would be helpful.

Thank you, this was helpful, Best, Craig
