Alphas from Clip Art Books

I noticed in my local bookstore a series of softcover books with names like “Arts and Crafts Design Art”, “Celtic Borders”, etc. What’s cool about them is that they come with a CD of image files of the art. I figured that they might be a quick and easy way of generating alphas for things like furniture, architecture, etc.

Has anyone used these for ZBrush alphas? If so, what are the drawbacks, if any, and did you ‘process’ them in any way or just import them as-is into ZB?
Did you blur them at all?

Sorry for so many questions, and forgive me if this is an old topic, but I’m digging some of the images in these books.

i would def blur them if being used for mesh deformation, to keep from gettin too many jaggies at the edges, i guess the quality of the image would determine if they need to be modified in any way

I use these resources occasionally. I do blur them, and at times increase the overall resolution in Photoshop…and within certain limits, are copyright free.

Cheers.
