Alpha values invert while stamping

Please see this video. The audio level is super low, so sorry about that. Anyway, for some reason the values of my stamp are inverting from the center out while scaling it to size. Hope someone can help.

Oh, and this phenomenon happens with all alphas on this model, not just the one I created for this task,

I guess the problem has everything to do with the curvature of the surface that I’m drawing it out on. I don’t know why that should matter. Hope someone knows a way around it. In the meantime, I guess I’ll try to make it all work the hard way…

Aha! The problem goes away when I turn off symmetry.
