Alpha tile: changes brush shape

Hi guys,

i am trying to model a stone wall using a tiled alpha and texture. i am trying to use “alpha tile” under “brush”>“Alpha and texture” to do this.

When the tile is set to 1, the brush shape is square, as i would expect:

however, when the “Alpha tile” is set to 2 or above the brush shape is round:

has anyone got any ideas why this is happening? and how to keep the brush shape matching the alpha (square). nb . that the Focal shift is set to -100.

any alternative suggestions for creating stone wall would be great:)
