ZBrushCentral

All Instances of Zbrush on machine have stopped working.

Win 7 64bit

I went to deactivate Z4r2 in order to install R3 update. Last time I used Zbrush was two weeks ago.

Z4r2 would not start. Nor would Z4 or Zb3.5r3. Let me be clear, this has nothing to do with z4r3 installation. I never made it that far.

When attempting to start I get a Windows alert sound, of the sort that would accompany an error message, but no message. There is a Zbrush icon on the task bar, but it will not load the Zbrush interface.

The only thing Ive done on a system basis over the last week or so, is to update an old sound card driver, which required uninstalling the old driver, and hence the device, first. I’d hate to think the Zbrush DRM was tied to something like a sound card.

It’s happened before, and I’ve had to reinstall to fix. My question, is if there is any way to deactivate the license other than through the program interface, so I don’t have to beg after you guys for one if I don’t have any activations left?

Here’s what the error in Windows Error logging says:

I’m happy to provide dxdiag info or other on request.

Thank you for any assistance.

Hi there,

One thing that could be causing this is if you copied your ZBrush folder to another location (even just renaming it in the same location) and tried to run it from there. That wouldn’t be where the Windows registry expects to find ZBrush and so it won’t launch right. In this case, simply putting the folder back to its original install name and location should fix the problem.

Another possibility is if something got messed up with your computer’s C++ components. In that case I would first recommend running the vcredist installer found in your ZBrush\Troubleshoot Help folder. If that doesn’t resolve the problem, use the Windows Control panel to uninstall the various Microsoft C++ entries you see there, then run the vcredist installer again.

If that still doesn’t resolve the issue, you’ll need to contact Support to have a new download link sent to you so that you can do a fresh install. In that case, the team can fix your serial number for you at the same time.

Hope that helps!

Thank you Aurick.

I have not moved or relabeled any zbrush components. I haven’t touched it for about 2 weeks.

When I run the vcredist_x86.exe inthe troubleshoot directory, it tells me:

"Please resolve the following:

A newer version of Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable has been detected on the machine."

Is this relevant? Can I fix this by reinstalling the C++ Redistibutable from MS?

Thanks again.

Argh.

I uninstalled every visual c++ redistributable item I saw in control panel, and reinstalled it with the vcredist_x86.exe in the Zbrush/Troubleshoot directory.

Now when I try to launch ZB, I get a bonafide error:

“The application failed to start because its side by side configuration is incorrect”.

You will need to submit a Support ticket to get a new download.

I would recommend doing this tomorrow, by which point we should be able to send you the full 4R3 installer rather than 4R2b (which you would then have to update).

sigh

Alright, thank you Aurick. I will contact support (bangs head against desk).

Interestingly, I installed the 2008 .exe from the “Older_vcredist” folder, and now I am back to the original problem, but not getting the side by side configuration error.
