Adobe after effects help needed

Hello there;

So well im trying to compose the “minerals as abstract art” in a video for relaxation, and im using adobe after effects because i heard it could hadle more stuff than boring premiere.
But by now i think im doing the exact same thing as if i was premiere. I dont know much about after effects, and i ddnt know where to ask for help neither were to post this thread.

My problem comes when i click play in my allready coordinated images moving around along a beautiful flute song it does really look flat.

Ive heard after effects can handle 3d or even zdepth maps, and here it comes my question-s;

A- Does someone know how to put zdepth maps into after effects to make it look more or less tridimensional or at least not that boring flat movements (rotation-position-opacity-blurring -etc)??

B- Does someone know any webpage with tutorials for that kind of things?

I really need a hand here, my deadline is next friday.

Please someone help!

Much cordially

Luis Faus

I think the stills or animated sequences have to be imported as .rpf files (or similar depending on software and export options )
These file hold zdepth info, and allow you to use 3d channel filters like fog and depth of field.
Don’t know of any good AE tut sites though, But I recommend ’ Total Training ’ s tutorials.

From where i can export that kind of files?

you can many things in after, but you must be more clear about the situation.

  • you can import many sequence of files, welded or different image sequences to have rgb, depth, motion, etc
  • you can add some effects like fog, depth of field and more with production bundle or with external plugins for after, you need to do that i suggest the great zbrisn toy of Mith, Taron, that allow you to load a color map, depth map and rebuild all render params from after effects check on http://www.taron.de/zborn/index.html
  • you can work on flat plane in after effects, not 3d obj, you can move flat plane in a 3d space, and use light and material to move a bit the camera, but flat plane remain…
send more info and we try to help you, i use after from since ten years, and i use also other comp software, if i can help you i’m happy to do that.

Pixelinfected;

Since you say you are a Pro in After Effects i have some other questions for you if u dont mind;

My main problem now is to syncronize the images to the audio, (and it only plays when i have render it in mov file and it does a funky “clak!” sound each 5 seconds where in the original music file its not there)

Anyway, my question is When i move the indicator bar to see how its going the transitions effects and rest , should it sound the music and or sounds i added to the project??? Because it doesnt.

My second question is, When i hit preview in RAM, why it only does 15 seconds of it?

Whithout the preview of the sound im not able to syncro the images, this project is a horrible nightmare, help!

Thanks beforehand!

cordially

first the ram preview duration depend from your ram, if you setup the window at half resolution instead of complete, you can do a preview of since two/three times of complete preview.

my best suggest for sound sinch is to open the sound, and open the wave form, to use the wave form for sound sinch, it’s faster and better than a classic audio sinch, but i’m an editor old school and i coundn’t be a good sample :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

for audio i can suggest two thing

  1. convert your file in two files, 8mhz wav no compress, and 48 khz wav no compress, use 8 mhz for sinch work and replace with 48 khz for final work.
    often if file is compressed can do problems, and is slow to play in realtime preview.

if you ear audio probably you not have enable it, check menu composition/preview, and verify that audio is enable.

if you want to ear audio during scrub keep CTRL down (option for mac, if i remember correctly).

i hope that help you.
anyway learn to see the peak of wave, if you start to edit and anim with music it’s a good way to see the music, be cause some times, when you use playback of music, you cannot be sure that music is sinch, be cause in real time after play video and audio is not perfected sinch, but in most of post software you use a dopesheet, a simple paper with frame and timecode to build a correct sinch for animation.

if you start now to learn after, i can suggest you a good, fast to read and very well thinked book.
After Effects in the classroom, i learn with it, it drive you along 10-12 lesson for simple exercise that show you the basis of software and you learn all that you need to learn.

second and third book are After effects books from chris and trish meyer, a real bible for normal and advanced user of after effects.

Advance After Effect User Here

Get this book Creating Motion Graphics with After Effects.

Real easy to read and you can straight to the pages where you need help
without reading the whole book. Good quick reference book.

I have it and use it from time to time if I get stuck with something.

Audio length time can be set in preferences. Note you may need to scrub
the work area out since it previews the audio in that area.

You can synce audio and video with the Motion Math assistant/ under Keyframe assistants. This will match a motion property to a value of your sound frequency
wwww.Trapcode.com sells a plugin soundkeys if you do not want to use motion math but want something quick and easy.

Some links for you buddy. Good luck with your project.
