Adjust Lazy Step Distance With Alpha Stamp Size

Hi all… I’ve used ZBrush a little, working along through a few tutorials, so have a very limited idea of the basics.

I’m detailing a dragon, and wanting some tips on placing scales of various sizes.

I like how using lazy mouse stepping I can place brush alphas of different sizes according to brush pressure, although the gap in between each alpha stamp is always the exact same step distance.

Example:

Is there a way to change the lazymouse stepping of your stamped stroke to alter it’s spacing as your brush size gets larger or smaller?

Kind of like this:

I could see this kind of workflow potentially making my job a lot easier to deal with varying scale sizes. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I don’t believe you can do what you’re wanting, vary step based on pressure.

But for scales I would recommend using curves and a scale insert brush. That will allow you to vary your scale size and ensure they nestle together correctly as scales.

Hey thanks for the tip!

I have ended up almost paining individual scales using an alpha, which has given me a good base scale coverage to work to. I’ll use the curve brush to lay down some additional spikes / scales next.
