Hello,
i’ve being tring to add a scanned texture to a scanned bust i have- the texture “came” with the mesh(when scanned), but when i try to unwrap it after importing it to zbrush i’ve had some problems espcialy after retopologing it into quads. the texture is all messed up- what should i do? (i have tried to adjust it several ways -non of it was good)
im adding some screen prints to explain my problem better-
this is the mesh
this the mesh with the texture on it
this is how it should look like (but with quads…)
would appreciate any advice- thank you!
Convert your texture to polypaint. (subD this mesh if needed)
duplicate your mesh
zremesh the duplicate
subD the duplicate
zproject
tada
Thank you so much for your replay! you have no idea how much i wanted that to be the answer to my problem but…did try your way- everything went well up to the point of the zproject ( did you referred to the zproject brush?) - it just did not work (the mrgb was on up to its max - should the zadd should be on too?) i probably misssed out something but i have no idea what could it be… could you please be more specific about the phases till the zproject and the zproject phase especially? thank you…
I think beta_channel forgot a step. After you Zremesh the duplicate, you will need to redo your UVs because the topology has changed. UV Master is probably your best bet.
See this tutorial on UV Master.
See the following tutorials on projection. (I think beta_channel meant ProjectAll function and not ZProject.)
#AskZBrush- “How can I ZRemesh a model then transfer the details back?”
and
#AskZBrush: “How can I project only the polypaint to a new mesh using the Project All function?”
all the things Zber said
thank you both!!! i must admit that now after Zber explaintion i got little closer to the result i need, but still… not quite…
i may should have told you eariler that my original mesh was not modeled but scanned and that is why i start with a mesh with lots of tris on it and maybe that can explain the result i got after following all the steps in the tutorials (great tutorials-thank you!!)
does it make any change? or would i have gotten the same result with any other mesh- modeled with quads and everything?

I assume that is your original scanned data mesh, and it appears that your verts aren’t welded.
When you first go to subD this mesh turn off SMT (smoothing) before you add subdivisions.
And the workflow for a quaded mesh or scan data is the same.
I really appreciate all of your input and advices but - unfortunately non of it worked… i followed your advices and the tutorials but it did not work… i got up to the point of projectioning the texture to the low res mesh -after zremeshing the duplicated mesh (turning off the SMT as suggested) and making sure all thr right icons are on and all the others are off and still- did not work- the texture does not appers properly on the mesh… it might be because the original mesh has lots of tris on it and when zeremeshing it with the texture on it already loses some of the texture… i thank you for all of your suggestions but i do not what else to do…
You might be missing something, or the Texture to Polypaint process isn’t working for some reason (I don’t think tri’s are the problem). You can try to subdivide your original mesh (providing your computer can handle it) before you transfer the texture to polypaint and see if that helps any.
Failing that, can you upload the original mesh and texture somewhere like SaberCat File Hosting so I could have a look at it?
thank you for all of yor help!!! i did uploaded all my mesh related files to the SaberCat file Hostiq (i shared it in the clipboard- i hope it will be easy to find it) thank you so much!!
Do you have URL links to the files?
That doesn’t do anything. Please see “Q: How can I share my files that I uploaded?” on https://sabercathost.com/faq
It seems like you were doing something wrong. I didn’t get the results you did. The only difference in the workflow is, that I DynaMeshed the duplicate first to get rid of the crappy scan topology.

I would like to thank you for all of your help and for the fact that you took the time and tried to figure out what was i doing wrong.
if you could please write me everything you did in order to get to those results i would really appreciate it- im kind of new to zbrush and everything i know is from answers and tutorials and to know that you just dynameshed it will not give me the full workflow- i tried to work like i did before but dynameshing it instead of zremeshing it and it did not work (tried several times and several ways) - this is the kind of things that i will do often and once i’ll understand what im suppose to do it will be much easier on the next projects…
thanks again for everything…
