Adding alpha to mesh, without adding volume (only affecting surface)

Hi all.
I have a problem in Zbrush that I can hope you can help me with.
I am using the standard brush with Spray Stroke to add an alpha to my mesh. It is a face where I want to add alphas, but without adding volume. When I add the alphas the volume changes a lot (see picture).
I must have done something wrong, as it only affected the surface at first, but now it is adding a lot of volume each time. It doesnt help to reset the brushes. I hope you can help me (I am new to Zbrush so sorry if the answer is obvious).

Kind Regards

Hi @Lord1 ,

Obviously you can reduce the ZIntensity of any brush to control how far it displaces the surface of the mesh. However, the Standard brush is tuned to make significant changes to the form of the mesh and may not be the best fit for what you are doing. Try the “Layer” brush instead.

Part of the issue here is your choice of alphas. There are no 100% black values in that alpha, so the entire stroke will displace from the mesh. Try using an alpha with a higher contrast between light and dark values, and you wont see any displacement from the black areas.
