Aaargh!

Well, it’s happened again. And this time, I doubt that there is anything to be done about it. Someone gave Adman’s “My Favorite Tool” a 9 rating, which has knocked it out of the Best Rankings at Renderosity. Someone else gave LeDiscot’s “Unpleasant Encounter” a 9, as well. So two of the best digital artworks ever are suddenly buried within the Best Rankings.

What is really sad is that of the two culprits, Adman’s is an artist with a gallery of FAR lesser quality. LeDiscot’s nemesis is someone who has no gallery at all. Who is he, to be saying that “there’s something odd about the texture”?

Oh well. I’m just ranting. I doubt that I could get either ranking eliminated, either, like was able to be done with that joker who plagued Adman a couple months ago. The comments attached to the pictures aren’t unrelated to the picture, the way that old one was. That they didn’t give a reason for why they disagree with everyone else about the quality of the image is probably irrelevant.

I just wanted to say to Adman and LeDiscot that I’m sorry to have seen this happen. I think that both of those pictures are unbelievable, and they deserve every one of the 10’s that they have been given to date!

I know what you are saying, Aurick, and I SLIGHTLY know how they must feel. I did a piece, my Alien Thinker , at Renderosity, and someone gave me a 7, effectively knocking me from 3rd place, down to 120-somethingth place in the ratings.

I contacted this person, who goes by cainbrogan at Renderosity, and asked him to elaborate on his comment, which was only “interesting”, and was responded to in a manner I found quite disturbing. Incoherent ramblings, disjointed thought patterns, and this moron THEN wanted me to jump through hoops to explain everything about my piece, while he basically called it a worthless piece of crap. I didn’t want him to raise his score, just consider withdrawing it, since it just is basically “hiding” my piece from potential clients who might consider giving me some work. Who am I kidding? Does ANYBODY get graphic work from their Renderosity gallery? I’d like to keep hoping.

By the way, this is HIS gallery! One piece. Isn’t it magnificent? No?

Adman and LeDiscot, my heart goes out to you and the injustice done to the ratings of those magnificent works of art you achieved. That whole system over there kinda sucks. You put your heart and soul into your work and some talentless a**hole, resentful of your ability, decides to pee in your potatoes.

I’m not saying my piece was perfect, in fact far from it, but I spent around 50 or 60 hours sculpting the original, about that many more molding it(28 separate pieces to the molds), several more casting it, several more cleaning up the casts and assembling them, about 10 hours or so painting, a couple hours photographing, a few hours Photoshopping and Zbrushing, and --VOILA! It was finally done, about 125 or more hours of work later!

I would NOT have minded if someone with talent and creativity, like Adman or LeDiscot for example, had given me a lower score. They would at least justify opinions with observations. And they have the RIGHT to put me in my place, artistically speaking, because they are TRUE artists, and I’m just a shmuck who’s dabbled in it most of my life, but inconsistently. But Adman, among many others, thought to give me a 10. Everyone that gave me a 10, you know who you are, are artists of such a high caliber, that I would feel unworthy in your presence. Thank you.

F-ing trolls!

I can empathize with the frustration. But let’s look at renderosity for a moment and truely take in it’s “value”.

It is basically a T and A flash pot of Poser “wanna be” graphics people. Followed by Photoscrape maniacs who think filters are high art.

The whole concept of the 1 to 10 rating schema is flawed as it is completely uncontrolled by parameters. It is in a word “useless”. 1 has no definition, 10 has no definition.

On a higher level; 7 out of 10 ain’t bad.
One cannot make all people happy.
No one is perfect. Ever. Although as friends and cohorts of ZBC, 10 is a cheer. Who really deserves a perfect score? Be honest now.

Renderosity, WAS a good place to be seen. I’ll admit it. It rattled a few cages for me and has brought a few hundred visitors to my website. but since I average about 7K new visitorsl a month, it is a small percentage of new hits.

I have NEVER received a PAYING job because of R.com.

Renderosity is bloated and the servers are taxed. If there are more than 900 surfers it bogs down to the point I just get the heck out.

I dunno.

I truely appreciate the angst on our brethren’s behalf. But in the bigger picture, the influence garnered or lost is weak at best.

I keep a gallery running, but I am less and less driven to do it.

Those that count KNOW how good we are…

ah, good ole 'rosity, and it’s numbers. I have a long history there, and I made a decission long long ago to not allow numbers to be placed on my work by the masses. None of us need that sort of validation. Really. There are many factors behind what “score” a viewer places on a piece of art, and not all of them have anything to do with the actual painting. Possibly few of the reasons have to do with your art. Your score can be raised or lowered based on wether you used a product sold there or not. Your score can be raised or lowered based on wether there is a busty nude woman in the picture. Or a faerie. Your score can be raised or lowered based on wether you are part of a clique.

It is sad, it sucks, it will never change.

Use Renderosity (and the whole net for that matter) as a place to play, learn, post your art, and enjoy, but don’t let the numbers have power, they are meaningless.

I am a newbie and went to that link to view that person’s pic…shudders…I agree with yall…Zbrush rules…P.S. I dont wanna get on yalls bad side

I agree with you, for the most part, Pam. Every time I post something, I make a judgement call about the rankings. Usually, these days, I turn them off. But that also means that the image has zero chance of ever getting into the Best Rankings. I don’t care about that for myself (sure, it’s gratifying, but it doesn’t make me a better or worse artist), but the Best Rankings section is something that a lot of potential users go to in order to evaluate a software.

We are ALL getting better with this program every day. Even Pixolator. Thus, our work grows ever more impressive, and showcases ZBrush’s capabilities even better. By not activating the rankings when posting at Renderosity, it is a virtually guaranteed way to ensure that after the first few days almost no potential new users will ever see it again. Which is a shame.

The system really is fouled up. But what can you do?

Ron: Bad side? We don’t have a bad side, do we? Naaah. I can prove it to you, too. Stand right over there… A little to the left… Too far… Got it. Now don’t move.
