A ZB2 look-alike plugin for 3dsmax

Hi everybody and Pixologic

I saw this today and if you guys and girls haven’t seen it already i post info about it here. the new ClayTools system plugin for 3dsmax by Sensable Technologies will soon ship. Read more on their pressrelease here…
(smells a bit ripoff of Zbrush from this…)

hmmm $3000 for a knock off or $500 for the original piece of genius with no extra tools, hardware needed?

I’ll stick with zbrush.

pretty interesting…was wondering how long it would take.

While I was reading through the info about it, I was expecting to read, “Oh and by the way, we ripped everything from Zbrush.” For some reason though, they seem to have left that part out.

I don’t think they got this from Zbrush. They are also the makers of Freeform, which has been around for awhile. So I doubt they would need to copy Zbrush in order to make a plugin for Max.

If you watch the behind the scenes stuff on Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, you can see Zack Petroc using Freeform with one of those hand tools. I’d love to get to use something like that in Zbrush. Maybe someday.

Chad’s right. These guys have been around for a while, and this is the next logical step in what they were already doing.

Let me also add that it’s not a rip-off in price, either. If you’ve the money to burn, this surpasses ZBrush in at least two ways:

First, it’s directly integrated into your animation software, so import/export issues are a thing of the past. That’s a very dramatic workflow improvement.

Second, it’s based in haptic technology, delivering the tactile feedback so many sculptors whine about missing.

That said, I wasn’t impressed by their hardware demonstration at Siggraph. I prefer ZBrush’s tool set over what they were showing back then, and I prefer the simplicity of a Wacom tablet. But, I can certainly understand why others might feel differently, and I won’t look down on them for buying this.

shrug

So there is allready a topic about this one. Somebody who tried it? I like to but isn t cheap and no demo version. Greets Tim
