a question for Aurick or anyone else who knows

I have been experiencing some trouble when I download some scripts. I usually change the name of script so I can find it in my files later and know what it is. Most times I just open it in word and save it as a txt. file and everything is okey dokey. However, sometimes I get jibberish when I open the script in word or note, and it cannot be used. This is not a new problem, but I haven’t said anything before because I was sure that it something really obvious and I just don’t know what I’m doing. At first I thought it might be that some scripts were Mac and some P.C. but then it started to happen to some of EZ’s scripts and I knew that wasn’t it. It thought maybe they were zipped files, but WinZip would not open them…it just wanted to zip them up.
What am I doing wrong? I’ve included an example of a default script that I was anxious to try but no luck.(the words ‘default script’, highlighted by me, are the only legible words.) I feel like I’m trying to decifer the Dead Sea Scrolls!!!
Your technically challenged member…

That’s a zipped script you’ve got there. Use WinZip if you’re on a Windows machine or Stuffit if you’re on a Mac to extract the script and any files that are included. The script should end with a .txt extension, and any associated files should be in the same folder that you put the script in.

If it is indeed a zip file make sure that it has the .zip extention. If need be you can rename the file so that it does end in .zip and then try to open it again.

Just to clarify what BluePage said:

If the file currently has the .zip extension, use an unzip program to extract the .txt file.

If it currently has a .txt extension, but opens like what you showed, then it was at some point renamed to the .txt extension without being extracted first. You’ll need to name it back to the .zip extension and then use your unzip program to extract the .txt file.

The .txt format is what ZBrush will open. You can also open it in a text editor once it’s extracted. Rather than looking like sanskrit, it will look something like:

<BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>[Image,default.psd,1]

[PenMove,-700-65+106-50,9]

[IButton,“2000x2000”,
[IUnPress,DOCUMENT:MODIFIERS:PRO]
[ISet,DOCUMENT:MODIFIERS:WIDTH,2000]
[ISet,DOCUMENT:MODIFIERS:HEIGHT,2000]

etc. etc.
<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Thanks guys…I’ll give it a whirl!
Cheers.

Worked like a charm!!! To think of all those scripts I deleted thinking they would only work on Macs…Oooppps. So smart sometimes…So dumb other times. Thanks for your help Guys!

i don’t know about Mac but that was open with a note pad or word pad and can only be open by a ZIP program.
if your a PC user (anyone) and keep getting this error.
highlite the ZIP file and hold your SHIFT kEY Down and RIGHT CLICK chose (OPEN WITH) and find winzip to open it with and make SURE you check the box that says ( allways open program with this type of file)
