A Lot of Disturbed Souls in Here

Gentlefolk:

I’ve been watching this forum since nearly the beginning, (and contributing works of “art”). I can’t even find my submissions any more, since they are so old.

But, I have to say, there seems to be a very similar nature in all the art I see - to wit, disturbing. Has been for a long time. It’s disheartening, to say the least.

If we look at art from what we have left of the historical record - never has there been displayed, en mass, this kind of concentration of darkness, degradation and evil that I am aware of.

This tells me, (and should be telling you), that the world is going down fast - when the most talented of artists display only the darkness that exists in their imaginations.

Better take it to heart. I would, if I were you.

I found some of my work here: http://www.zbrushcentral.com/search.php?searchid=3904309

What about Jerome bosch paintings,Ancient sculptures like the Rapt of Polissena by Pirro,Picasso’s Guernica,
Saturn Devouring One of His Sons’ by Francisco Goya or Leonardo Da Vinci’s sketches of Dragons,
Dali,Munch,Francis Bacon…
I think we havent studied the same history of art.

Art has always been disturbing.Beethoven and Van Gogh are disturbing.
Of course sticking only to dark stuff is limiting but if you look at the ZB toprowers gallery you will see that all styles are well represented cartoony, realistic, fantasy, hardsurface ect…
Its not just ghouls N’ goblins there.

More nudity, bondage, ropes, leather etc, would
improve things greatly!!!

personally i don’t see a problem with the diversity that zbcentral displays. I think that degenerated and disturbed forms generally, and from a technical standpoint, present an opportunity to display ones ability better.

Lets face it, pretty people with no significant details tend to get boring after a while.

With that said, i do believe it is telling of the collective consciousness, that we do live in dark times, and we tend to explore the melancholic nature of our talent, or your talent ;).

But as mentioned above, art has always been a lot about darkness.
Look at how many classic sculptures who have tried to capture the fall of man, in a christian mindset with the garden of eden. great stuff but essentially nothing but “sad” stuff.

it’s deeply imbedded in humans - our dark side. Look at how small children are afraid of the dark, the monster in the closet and under the bed.
How people feared forrest, lakes and pretty much everything we/they didn’t really understand. In the old days, around the camp fire, the most effective way of lingering in our fascination of what scares us, lay in telling ghost/scary stories.

Now the most efficient way is movies or digital art like we have here in zbcentral. nothing has changed that much, we are just better at expressing what we fear or are fascinated by

so keep it coming. If someone want to display more positive art, which we have a lot of already - do something about it ;)…

my 2cents anyway

My father who has been a pro sculptor for 35 years summed it up perfectly… ‘It’s easy to make ugly things.’

Bruce should be more worried about the actual atrocities in the world rather than his perceived atrocities on Zbrushcentral.

I don’t see any images of rape or murder or anything else that should worry Bruce.

Since he’s leading everyone to a page with his images his complaint sounds more like self-promotion.

One more point to add – many people want to imply a story with their images. People get interested when details hint and make them wonder at the history behind a character or event. The most basic requirement of any story is conflict. It’s easy to see how this leads to a proliferation of “dark” material in an art gallery, especially where most of the contributors have or aspire to careers in some sort of storytelling (movies, games, etc).

Of course dark and disturbing isn’t the only way to go about this – just the most direct. But it’s hard for a thing of beauty to be more than just a thing of beauty that will get nothing but an appreciate “hmm that’s pretty” glance from most people.

what a genuinely, outrageously, ludicrous post.

there’s gotta be a religious angle on this right?
