a few performance questions

Ok there is a great thread below describing ram usage and memory settings, instead of hijacking it I am just starting another post.

Ok a few more performance questions. I have ZB on a partition with other applications, it is seperate from windows. Now I have another partition where I store all my files models textures scenes… Will having the zbrush files seperate from the application be a problem.

Also I am getting out of memory errors and the displayed brush is not using anywhere near max memory or my setting what should I do? Could it be a max poly srtting. The error occurs when the brush goes from 1.6M polys to 6.7M. It does the divide, and will come back but then cannot be reloaded. Memory usage goes from 550M to about 1.4G … I set mem preferences to 1.9G and 7M polys.

Thanks for the advice,
James

I seem to have same problem on both my systems…

task manager says 50-60% memory used yet Zbrush gets out of memory error…

as far as other partitions, windows cant wright to a Linux partition…

make a fat 32 partition… both Linux and windows can read/wright to it.

DON’T WRITE TO A NTFS system from Linux, it will ruin your partition…

I am not using linux at all, just windows 2000 pro. I am just wondering if seperate partitions for the application and the files is ok.

As far as memory error goes, I guess when a mesh is divided it must use alot of memory. That is typically when i get the error. Of course it is at a pretty high poly level, so it might not be too shocking. Just trying to fine tune the preferences for optimal performance.

yea I am at the poly limmit in the prefrences when it happens to me…

Perhaps task manager dose not see everything that gose on… might be maxed out in memory and task manager cant see the other memory for some reason…

I did notice task manager quite slow when regestering how my cpu is being used…

there is a task manager from COOLBEANs that is quite cool, it lets you see both processors on an SMP system, it also seems to update faster…

sory I dont understand your other question… Try putting a message in the questions forum, be sure to add your system specs to the message, this will increase your chances of pixologic replying to your question.

hope that helps , have a good day  :+1:

Thanks, I put a post in the question area.
