A dragon head

Hi all, this is my 3rd upload here… the other two submissions were a while back. Ive practiced a bit over time and I finished this today. Took me ~2 hrs.
I would really like to know what everyone thinks!

I did it completely through the rapid ui with a polysphere, and used zbrush’s alphas.

Any feedback on this? Id really like to know what everyone thinks so I can focus on getting better.

it dosnt have enuff general deffinition. too much small detail on top of a not fully defined head. work on the base mesh to get flow and function before adding high poly detail.

It’s a good start. I’d suggest a little more work on the overall form/proportion before getting so detailed in the actual sculpting. You’ve got some shapes & forms in this model that are really hard to make out…

I might try going back to your base mesh and push and pulling a bit to get the massing to a point where you can really begin to identify the shape… ie, jaw, head, eye area.

Also, some of the best looking sculpts are grounded in real-world anatomy. So you might try referring to whatever this creature most closely resembles in the real world and draw inspiration from that.

I hope that helps! I look forward to seeing our progress.

Thanks for the replies, I will definitely try to work more on the base mesh first before i get into the detailed things. If theres one thing I’ve always had problems with, its anatomy. Its something I know that if I want a really great peice, I would really have to learn it.

Anybody know of any good sites to get into the basics of anatomy? Or books?

i was very bad with anatomy myself and cant draw worth crap. everyone says if you cant draw then your models will suffer. i picked up a few human draw and anatomy books from b&n and hacked away about 45 min a day for about 2 weeks and was extremely surprised on how much better my models were turning out. not to mention my drawing skills increased. since then iv shyed away a bit from the drawing but i will definitely take that back up soon because it is way worth the effort. give it a try.

There isn’t a barnes and nobles around here, but I’ll definitely check out their website. Thanks alot for the reply I really appreciate it.

And when you’re ready to go back in for the detailing, I’d think about putting a few fine wrinkles around the eye lids to help define that area. :+1:

Hey all. I didn’t really mess too much with the whole anatomy for it yet, but I wanted to try and texture it to see how much I would like it. Let me know what you think! Sorry about the eyes:p
