Naah, I don’t think so
Not yet… no
Very interesting…
Very very interesting! Thanks Frenchie!
Not even close.
they sent me a demo movie and it can’t even touch ZBrush, trust me they have a long way to go.
Spent about 2 minutes at their site. Looks like very basic Nurbs?
It wouldn’t be half bad if you could load in other models and texture them, but as it stands rigt now, you can’t. And, you can only export to 3ds format with a 30,000 poly cap. Price-wise, I think the average person could get something out of it, but… that’s about it
I found the Lofts and Lathes demos to be quite interesting. Would love to see tools like that in Z. Very nice control options.
Keep watching. lol.
My personal thoughts on this zbrush/curvy debate is this.
They both have their place in different ways and cannot really be compared to each other at the moment.
Because of the simple straight forward interface I can just get on and model and put together a quick basic texture and dont really have to think about it. (Texture mapping is automatic in the background) The interface doesnt get in my way when modelling. I dont have to think how will I do such and such I just do it.
I really cant wait to see a new v2 zbrush, especially if the interface is neatened up for new folks and not old hands. That was the killer for me. I would love to own both tools as they both have strengths (Zbrush is amazing for textures and the rendering is soooo cool, Makes me sick when I see some of the textures you folks make. lol)
However nothing will take me away from Curvy as a modeller as the speed is phenominal and can only get better.
In my ideal world I will own Curvy 3D Pro, Zbrush and Cinema 4d 8. Then I think I will be a very happy person. lol.
Cheers
Mike R (Curvy3D beta tester)
mykyl you definately sound like you know more than the rest of us, now you’ve got me pumped to try the demo when it comes out!
Thanks for the info
This image shows off the new features in Curvy Pro. All these features and more are available as part of the public beta test of curvy.
The tree was made using a meta-merge of several line objects.
The mech was made from Lofts and Lathes with details added using the new mesh tools.
The light and shadows were rendered in the new built-in global illumination renderer with depth of field and two volume lights.
…Simon !
You have some flair as a “challenger”
Your program is always so crazzy!
Sorry for not more test on your Curvy Forum, I promess in 2 weeks!
Bon courage!

I Love this picture Simon…
I dont see Curvy as a Challenger for any software package, because it is totaly unique.
Zbrush dosent use lathes, and Curvy dose not use Zspheres… Hopefully this challenge approach to marketing dose not scare away Zbrush users… Curvy has some nice features that Zbrush dose not have. (and Vice-versa)
I have really enjoyed useing Curvy, and I see it as a great new way to make models. The current version is verry impressive, and verry useable. and worth a look.
There are some very new and Stimulateing ways of doing things with Curvy, If you all ready own Zbrush you should still take a look at Curvy. some of the new features look verry good, like the ability to bake shadows on all sides of a model with a push of a button.
Useing Lathes has really inspired me to make new and interesting creatures… it has also made me Re-think the way I model.
I like the way I am able to UV map every part of the model to a Flat surface without any effort on my part. with the use of a small utility I am able to take all the UV maps that Curvy makes and combine them into one texture for easy painting in Zbrush, and fast rendering in a real time rendering system.
I have broken one of my Biggest rules about Beta testing Curvy, Simon is quite nice , and listens to feedback and input quite well. There are new and interesting updates almost every week, I have not had much time to keep up with Simon.
I do not see Curvy as a “Challenger” that is not a marketing policy I have been using (This thread started by someone else). Curvy suits a different user and purpose to ZBrush, and the luckiest users use both!
The POSING character feature looks very useful.
But, it can’t compete with ZB, which is available for PC and MAC!
Curvy Pro is not.
A final thing to note, Curvy is very affordable:
You can happily sketch models in Curvy 3D, meta-merge them to make a continuous skin then detail them in ZBrush.
