A bug...?

Does this happen to anyone else…? Or maybe there’s some feature that’s doing it…? I’ve noticed sometimes, particularly if I do something on my second monitor and go back to the first, whenever my project autosaves and I move the cursor, the project I’m working on just disappears. As though it closes automatically. I have to keep pressing Ctrl + Z to undo. It’s quite annoying.

Well, I can’t speak to any issues specific to your dual monitor setup. In terms of general zbrush usage though:

  • Actually moving the cursor or attempting to perform an operation during an autosave is a recipe for weirdness. Avoid doing this if at all possible. It may be that you’re moving the object during an autosave, and that move suddenly registers after the autosave has completed. Pressing “F” should re-fit your active subtool in the viewport.

  • If the autosave behavior is too frequent or problematic for your tastes, its behavior can be adjusted in Preferences > Quicksave. Remember to store config in Preferences > Config after making any changes.

  • Also, be sure to understand the difference between an active 3d mesh in edit mode, and a mesh that has been dropped to the canvas as Pixols. This trips up some new users. If you have inadvertently exited edit mode for whatever reason, you’ll need to press “T” to enter it again and make your mesh live.

Oh it’s never during an autosave. It happens afterwards. I could leave it idle for several minutes, but if I go back to it and continue, it disappears.

Thanks for the tip about pressing F. I don’t think I’ve used that. I think I will turn off autosave; I’ll risk it. I’m usually good when it comes to saving frequently, so hopefully there won’t be any issues.

And yep, I’m aware of the difference between Edit Mode and when a mesh is dropped to the canvas. It did trip me up at first.
