4R8 matcaps are blown out and too bright

Hello. I am having a weird issue where some of my matcaps, which work great in 4R7 are overdriven and blown out in 4R8. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Here are images comparing the two.

It looks like you have scene lighting active, which doesnt work well with matcaps. Do you get this on a fresh program start with no files loaded?

I have a single light on in the LIGHT dropdown… but just the standard single light that is always on. It shows up this way by default, and is also on in the old version.

Is there another light that you mean?

No, that’s fine. Matcaps appear as intended with the default scene light active, but when you add more they get blown out as in your picture. Matcaps have their lighting baked in and dont respond well to additional lighting in zbrush.

It looks like the problematic matcaps are all custom? Do you have any issue with the default matcaps?

Correct, only in the custom matcaps. It looks like the ones that are overdriving have some sliders in the matcap modifier that are >1. Now, this looks great in 4r7 (on another machine right next to the 4r8 machine). When i bring the >1 sliders down it fixes the problem, but no longer looks like my original matcap.

I dont see any indication that Matcap parameters were touched, although that doesn’t mean they weren’t:

But apparently something about the settings on your custom matcaps is no longer working the same in R8. Unfortunately I’m not able to be of any further use as Ive always been baffled by matcaps. Sorry. Hopefully someone else can be of help.

Thanks for giving it a shot.
