4R7 installs but won't launch on OSX 10.7.5

Minimum requirements say OSX 10.7. It looks like everything installed properly but neither the 32 bit nor the 64 bit launch.

I’m in same boat, running 10.7.5. Was a clean download and install, when I go to launch ZBrush, it does nothing…

Mine finally installed… after changing the code a gazillion times… however I cannot open any projects… only lightbox ones…

I’m having the same problem. Seems to install fine, but will not launch.

you likely have a processor that doesnt support intel sse4.2 instructions. i think it boils down to a minimum i5 processor for x86 or Xeon 3500 for mac pros.

pixologic could have said so in their requirements.

The requirements in the documentation state SSE2 so it should not be a problem. On page 19 of the documentation it says this
“Must have SSE2 – Streaming SIMD Extensions 2. All CPU’s from 2006 or later support SSE2.)”

interesting.

i would run Console, then launch Zbrush and see what Message it gives in the console upon failing to see what the issue is then.

something tells me that the instruction requirements aren’t fully documented.

Oh I know the message that terminal gives regarding SSE4.1. However another explanation could be they set the compile flags wrong. lol. I wish i wish i wish i wish I wish. etc Otherwise I’m stuffed.

We shall wait and… see.

The specs on the website state for pc as a minimum

CPU: Pentium D or newer (or equivalent such as AMD Athlon 64 X2 or newer) with optional multithreading or hyperthreading capabilities.

and for mac…

CPU: Intel Macintosh

Pentium D does not have SSE4.1 either. Like my cpu it only does SSE3 as a maximum.

does pixologic usually respond to this threads? the OP was posted 3 days ago with no official reply.

I’m having the same issue, I know I can run SSE2 as required. ZBrush is not launching…sigh. I sent in a support ticket and they replied that they are trying to address the issue.

Pixo is aware of the problem and will respond when they have a clue as to what to do about it. I have to say,and I speak as one who loves ZBrush almost as much as my children, the beta testing of ZB4R7 for Mac was an unmitigated disaster. They had no idea of any of this. Even on my new mac pro ZB4R7 is buggy.

If nothing else it gives me time to watch all the videos on how to use the tools… Now Ive done that I am ready to play.

Like “mykyl,” I’ll be updating myself on the new tools. Currently working on a project that I was hoping to put ZB4R7 to work. In light of the issues some of us are having with the install, I’ve realized I have been letting my guard down on updating my hardware. So I’ll be updating that as well…

I was wondering, should I go ahead and buy the bridge and KeyShot 5 now, so at least I can use that with ZB4R6 (without the bridge). Then when this problem is solved I can just activate KS5 and the bridge with ZB4r7?

I would wait. I don’t believe it would work with 4r6.

Personally I wish the wait was over. Or at least we had a clue as to if they were near a solution or perhaps how long it might take. So many questions nobody with answers.

Think I need to turn off the sound on Mail. Getting tetchy hearing the ting for new mail to find its nothing but replies to threads from days ago and not a woo hooo here is the fix. :evil:small_orange_diamond:D

Did anyone try to launch via Terminal (Applications/Utilities)

Simply type:

open /Applications/ZBrushOSX\ 4R7/Zbrush.app

[FONT=arial](there has to be an empty space after the backslash)
and hit enter

Does Terminal report errors?

Yep and I posted it here and in my ticket what the result was.

Sorry, missed that…

Maybe this looks promising:
ArtBot could get his installation going

Hey guys, just got an email from Pixologic. They sent me an installer and it did launch ZB4R7. It launch the 32bit version. I’ll mess around with it tonight to see if there are any bugs and get the bridge working with KS.

Hope it all works for you.
