4 butts ...

Hi! first of all, im a newbie to 3d. i kinda looked into 3ds max and maya, but already forgot everything … cuz its waaay too technical for me … i just wanna be able to enjoy creating a character and spin it around and enjoy looking at it. so, im very grateful there is such a fantastic tool as zbrush.
but ive run into a problem i dont know how to solve … actually im quite embarassed to show my inferior 3d skills here but i figured this would be the fastest way … so here it comes:

as you can see there are some unpleasant creases around the crotch and on the butt. (ignore the hands … they are result of an failed experiment and i know, the anatomy isnt correct …) I also know that this is probably related to topology and , yes, ive already read the tutorials concerning this subject and my zcripts have gone mad (cant watch them), but i still didnt quite get how its done … anyway, i couldnt find a way to solve this. i understand that i could have made the basemesh in a conventional 3d program but as i explained above, im not 3dmax savvy … so … anyone know a tutorial where retopologizing is shown on a human body or just explain it … i havent found anything here nor anywhere else. Or maybe this is not about topology?
btw, thanks for reading my weird question …

Possibly, and I’m just guessing here, the crease on the rump comes from the two polygroups meeting and the edges are “creased.” I had a similar result modeling a head from a 3d polycube, which had all 6 sides creased. As I divided and tried to add details, I could see this crease, but could not seem to smooth it. What I did in the end was to “uncrease” the edges (in the Geometry subpallette of the Tools pallette). A way to uncrease all edges at once is to hold Shift as you click the Uncrease option.

As I said, this may not be your issue, but try it just in case. You may then be able to smooth the area with the smooth brush.

I’ll be watching this thread to see if that helped.

Cheers, Slosh.

it would help greatly to see your lowres mesh, but i’m guessing its a 5 or 6 edged pole that you have going on there.

Small hand for such a big…

ok, so thanks for the replies!

ive tried everything u mentioned so far but it didnt work. ill post some low res pics and with frame … maybe thats a bit more helpful.

does nobody know … ? any suggestions how i can avoid this next time?

Topology.
Do some reseach on the internet so you can understand whats happening, your topology is a mess and its causing you problems, particularly that you have 5edged poles, not to mention 6 edged which are real bad and who knows what kind you have in the groin area, your pic didnt really show that part. Also don’t fret, you’ll get the hang of it in time, just keep learning by your mistakes;)
