3ds Max VS zBrush

im not knocking any modeling program and i dont even use 3ds max
im using it as a sample
im :small_orange_diamond:curious
when i browse some of these graphic forums and i compare
it seams other software puts out a better images then the other
of cource it would depend on the user skills.
but when you get a majority of good pic out beating the other software
it make me think its a better software.

ok back to 3ds max
ive seen some Car pic that are realy allsome and ive seen a bunch from other user
but when i compare it to zbrush i dont see anyone that can even get close to the look
is there a reason why im :small_orange_diamond:curious

3ds max has some pic that even fool me for passing off as a real photo and not 3d.

so what im curious about what can 3ds max do that zbrush cant and vise versa when it comes to 3d modeling and why:question:

only problem i see is some one from 3ds max will say it took me 3 days to make that pic
sorry i would never take that long to make any thing even if it did look that good.
zbrush has the speed for me but the out come looks isnt as good
even if i did spend 3 days

Practice makes perfect. You cannot compare a 3D app like Max to ZBrush, they are not the same. Three days for modeling, texturing, and rendering a photo-realistic car? That is really not to bad.

i know there not the same but they Both do 3D Modeling
so lets compare
what makes these model better then one another
is it the rendering
does it have better tool options
does it have more option
is it easyer to control
does it have better material.
what is it :qu:
my guess would be i need a answer from a pro who uses 3ds max and allso zbrush to explain and know what im talking about

they do modelling but for different purposes.

wouldnt go around making architectual work with zbrush. it was never designed for that. i wouldnt use max for that either, but it has better tools for that than zbrush does.

however, if i had to sculpt an organic shape, that looked… organic, i wouldnt use max because it doesnt have the nice sculpting tools that zbrush does.

the whole point is not to just use one tool for everything, but use the right tool for the right job.

if you want to do photoreal stuff ( with great looking materials, and scenes with many objects, then zbrush is probably not where you want to be at. )

however if you want to take what you have in max, and enhance it by adding micro details, then zbrush is where this kind of work shines.

ok now were getting some were :+1:

:small_orange_diamond: question 2
i see maxs can do cars and even motor cycle really good
how come you cant get the same look with zbrush :frowning:
it seams difficult

You can, just not as well or as fast.

i love that box model zscript
i ran it the other day :+1:
so your saying 3ds maxs is more of a box model program:question:

not really just a box modelling app. but max does have a lot more tools for accurate modelling than zbrush, and that was my main point. you have snap tools, measuring tools, a manipulator so you can accurately move on constrained axes like XYZ or surface normals. you have tools to make arcs and circles and springs from custom profiles, and its more accurate than the tools found in zbrush. theres a huge list of things in max that isnt in zbrush. like the materials. in zbrush your able to only have one texture per shader. in max you can have as many textures in one shader as your computer can handle. this can give much more specific effects that you are looking for, and i hope will be something adressed by pixologic in upcomming releases.

so think like this. zbrush= more freeform, 3dsmax= more CAD like. neither of them is perfect, and both compliment eachother perfectly.

I don’t think there is a question about (Insert 3D program here) or Zbrush.

It should be a question about (Insert 3D program here) plus Zbrush.

In my opinion, Zbrush is the “perfect” organic modeling tool. However, it’s not so great at other things like architectural work, or most inorganic objects. The reason being is that Zbrush requires a high amount of geometry to smooth out any object, and in order to do a spring or something in Zbrush the model will have to be pretty polygon heavy. Meaning you will quickly run out of room for other details.

I look at Zbrush as a companion application. A very meaningful companion application.

Well said Chad.
For me…its Z2+W3D+C4D.
I do alot of modeling in Z2 but for a nice, somewhat pwerful box modeling app…I head to wings.
