3ds max Image I/O Error on 4k MD3 Displacement Maps

The title says it all. In 3ds max I get an Image I/O Error when I try to bring in 4k MD3 Displacement Maps. Actually, now it’s doing it with 2k maps as well.

I did try Bitmap Pager, but it didn’t help.

For anyone else having this problem, it seems that max will only import 32-bit displacement maps up to 2k. If you need a larger map you’ll need to export it out of ZBrush as 16-bit.
