Hi Everyone,
Myself and a friend have recently had the good luck of getting our hands on a zCorp color printer.
I want to of course print about a million ideas once I have it in my hands, but I would like to open up the opportunity to the community as well.
I’m not out to make a living off this, but I would love to make enough to cover materials and a little extra to possibly help buy more equipment to improve services over time.
Here’s the thing, I love me some zBrush and it has finally opened up the world of 3d to me in ways that I only imagined before. I really hated trying to push vertices, faces, splines around for hours on end for one little ounce of satisfaction.
That being said, I’m catching on fairly quickly with zBrush but I don’t have a ton of experience checking models to make sure they are watertight, etc.
Therefore, I’m thinking of offering a slightly do it yourself service vs some of the more expensive do it all ones. At least initially.
Here’s the gist. You send me the .stl, I’ll check it in the zCorp print software to make sure it’s not going nuts, print it, and then send it to you raw after infiltrating it with resin for strength. If it’s whack, I’ll let you know where things are wonky and you can fix it and resend.
This is all subject to change a bit once I am more experienced with the process, but that’s the general idea.
Now, what I’d like from all of you is some idea of what you would consider a fair price for this. Assuming let’s say, a 6"x6", 8"x8" and then 10"x8" build sizes in general.
This is just an idea at the moment, but knowing how much I was craving printing my work in 3D before I know many of you may be interested in this service.
The prints that are output are essentially like the ones at figureprint.com and a few of the pieces on offload studios gallery. Specifically the Abe Sapien and the two on the bottom that are boxers and alien looking figures.
The color output is ok, and looks decent with resin infiltrant applied, but I would think that I would be able to keep things cheaper if you were to just get it in white. Not saying I won’t offer the color capability, just that there may be an upcharge for it since it seems the binder resins are more expensive for those.
Anyway, just putting a feeler out to see if I just want to use it as my own awesome toy or if I could make this viable as a source for the creative community here.
Thanks for any feedback.
Cheers,
Holto
