am exploring tools right now, here is one I found that i thought might be good for making a quick mountain with reflection for later painting etc,
the wierd stuff around the edge is just to show the border of the semi transparent plane, and to give some idea for making land around a lake or suchlike
step 1 choose 3d brush, and an alpha you want(i used the alpha commonly used for clouds.
then select double, so it mirrors to both sides, then place a semi transparent plane on a separate layer in the middle. and angled forward a bit, as well as bending just a bit to make it slightly round
the end.
havent figured out a good water texture for the plane 3d yet, but close enough just for this post:P
If you haven’t checked this out yet you should…This is the most epic landscape thread in the history of ZBC…
You’ll find LOADS of tips in this thread!!

Interesting technique, and nice to see you solved the upload problem!
Thanks for the link SC,(looks like Juandel already used this way of making things in one of his pictures there lol I’ve never been very succesfull with the alpha centuri method(see the picture at the bottom) I was trying more just to find out what different brushes can do the reflection part was cause just by clicking random buttons in the settings for 3d brush, and the idea from it was to create quick landscapes(the one I posted was under 8 minutes, excluding the time I spent fiddling with the settings on the Plane3d, if you had a plane loaded, You could make mountains around in 30 seconds or so. The 3D brushe’s main use I found is for creating interesting forms on things, will ul some more stuff showing that later, (such as stalactites and so forth for cave like things) and things in water in front of lagoons, that kind of thing and im now annoyed cause my browser is spewing the scroll bars from the window all over this, so its hard to read what I’m tying
All the more reason to check out that thread Reyd…If you check out how large it is, you’ll see it’s a gold mine for landscape elements of all kinds, as well as relection techniques, water techniques, rocks, everything…
And that technique can also be used as a VERY powerful general modelling technique for things other than landscape. Save you a lot of time learning…
True, I am going to try again to learn the alpha centuri method, thanks again for the link
lol, is right, i experimented with quite a lot of things in this thread - but cant remember to have used dragrectangle 3d brush with double on to make reflections ever fantastico idea
Reyd, and absolutely no reason to
one tip for alpha century: make the plane 3d pretty hi-res (maybe after some lowpoly basic modelling only) and do the z-offset-deformation in small doses to start with only, you can increase its value step by step
- juandel
thanks, I’ll do that, in one of your pictures you explained that it was done with drag rect stroke and 3d brush, not the alpha centuri method, anyone have a good water material?
I listed my favorite water techniques threads on the following thread earlier…you should find this information useful as well…
