32 bit vs 64 bit

Thinking of getting a stronger computer from dell, to deal better with zbrush and lightwave. Dell 9100 with 64 bit with 8gb of ram, as I only have 3 now and it really slows things down.

What I want to know is the difference between 32 and 64 bit, will I be able to use older software, I know I can use Light wave and possibly zbrush. What makes 64 bit better?

32 bit will only be able to use 2 gig for zbrush, no matter how much ram you have. 64 bit will be able to use 4 gig.

so 64 bit is better for zbrush, but I will only be able to use 4gb, no matter if I get a computer with 8 gb of RAM?

Zbrush is only 32-bit, that’s why it’s 4-GB max. Some plugins are 64-bit, though. Getting a 64-bit OS will allow you to run more applications at the same time as Zbrush and not take away from the ram that Zbrush has available, which is important. I recommend 64-bit for sure.

64 for sure. And with lightwave 64 you’ll be able to load significantly larger scenes. It wot have the max 4 gig limit.
