I updated to version 2026.1.
As usual, I moved all my materials, custom menus, and hotkeys to the Zstartup folder.
Now, when I open Zbrush, I can’t find any of my customizations.
I also noticed that many folders that existed in previous versions are missing from the Zbrush folder.
What happened to them?
How can I make sure my materials, brushes, and menus are there as soon as I open Zbrush?
Thanks in advance
I have this problem also. But a work around is to use the ZStartup folder in “C:\Users\Public\Documents\ZBrushData2026”. It’s always been kinda weird there were two places you can put stuff, but this directory is still working for me.
Hey
i had the same problem and solved custom menu and brushes (i hadn’t my custom materials so i dont have any idea about it).
copy your previous “Customuserinterface.cfg” file wherever you want. i put it in “C:\Program Files\Maxon ZBrush 2026\Zdata\UserInterfaceLayouts” folder
then inside Zbrush 2026 from
“Preferences> Config>LoadUI” load that file and finish
brushes: because i always use Lightbox for my custom brushes i put them to “C:\Program Files\Maxon ZBrush 2026\Lightbox\Brushes” and it worked well for me.
also hotkey file is in this folder “C:\Program Files\Maxon ZBrush 2026\ZData\HotKeys” you can edit or replace it.
hope you find this helpful.
From ZBrush 2026.1 the folder strcuture has changed, and moved to
Windows: C:\Users[UserName]\AppData\Roaming\Maxon\ZBrush_[HashValue]
macOS: /Users/[UserName]/Library/ApplicationSupport/Maxon/ZBrush_[HashValue]/
If you press “Preference > Asset Directory > Open Directory” it will open that folder.
You can read the documentation in detail here.
https://help.maxon.net/zbr/en-us/Content/html/user-guide/customizing-zbrush/user-content/user-content.html
It’s recommended “not” to overwrite the program file’s Zdata folder, because that will overwrite the default files, and might create multiple issues.
It is one of the reasons why we’ve proceeded to start this restructuring process.
when you save a custom UI by Preference > Config > Store Config, it will save the .cfg file under
C:\Users[UserName]\AppData\Roaming\Maxon\ZBrush_[HashValue]\ZStartup
you can load a different UI and press Store Config, and it will overwrite that .cfg folder with the loaded UI.
Thanks a lot!!!
By the way, have you had any problems with the Knife Brush?
As soon as I use it, Zbrush closes and crashes.
same.
This is a known issue, and will be fixed soon.
