2019 1.2 Transparency Texture Gone?

Hi! I’ve used Zbrush for a long time now. I love polypainting but I don’t know if it’s my problem or a possible bug in Zbrush with the lastest version.

Zbrush 2019 was working well, so I decided to delay updating to 1.2 but Splitting the screen was tempting so I’ve updated and found this:

Is transparency gone?

I will try to demonstrate that with two pictures:

Maybe some of you are experiencing this aswell.

As you can see, the texture overlaps and transparent textures are no longer available!

This is even more obvious with symmetry activated.

The curious thing is that, with Spotlight, some transparency works, but with Symmetry, something is wrong. You can check it.

Thanks in advance and Cheers!

To add a bit more info, I already tried to work with different kinds of textures and extensions.

I even thought that probably, with the addition to import JPEG and Tiff files(new addition to Zbrush), something is going on with the transparency in Zbrush now.

Cheers!

Hello @ZArt

It’s not a good idea to avoid upgrading. It’s free for registered users, you miss out on fixes and features, and more importantly, obsolete versions are not officially supported.

To your issue here, it seems like there is change in behavior specifically when Symmetry is in use, the texture slot is occupied, and the strokes overlap. I am looking into this.

Otherwise, when Symmetry is not in use, everything behaves as you wish:
strokeoverlap

One note. When working with the standard 3d sculpting brushes, transparency is controlled by the ALPHA. So if you wanted that star texture to be cropped to the star, you would have to also load in the star shaped alpha into the alpha slot.

Spotlight is different. With spotlight you’re using the brushes indirectly to apply the positioned texture like a decal. Spotlight supports transparent textures.

When you’re using the 3d brushes without a texture in the texture slot, it behaves as you wish, even with symmetry active.

Thanks a lot for the fast answer SPYNDEL! Yes, you’re right, my fault! I thought that the previous version was mindblowing stable. I was afraid to update and have issues. Next time I will instantly update from the very beginning! thanks for the advice bro!

Yes, you’re right. It seems that Symmetry is what cause this. Even it happens in Spotlight, the texture is overlapped.

Thanks again for all the info!

Ok, the symmetry thing looks like a bug to me. I tested a previous version of the program, and the behavior is indeed different on my system as well. I reported this to Support, and if I hear anything differently I’ll let you know.

Thanks again Spyndel!

For me, to texture with symmety creating patterns is a must! Hehehe.

Cheers!

Hi! I want to know if there are some news about this. Is a bit annoying for me because I use a lot this. I hope zbrush will solve this! cheers!

There have been no new official Pixologic releases since the thread was made.
