11 September 2001, Tuesday of Terror

Something for us all to think about. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the victims of the terrorists attacks and their families.

Only people completely without conscience and directly influenced by satan himself could participate in such an extensive and meaningless destruction of human lives. Those responsible for these attacks, and terrorist attacks in general, are selfish, ignorant people who are fighting for lost causes in the names of gods who do not support their actions. Only a desperate and completely inhumane person devoid of all human compassion could participate in these heinous crimes against humanity.

I read this morning that someone aboard Flight 93 that crashed in Pennsylvania had relayed by cell phone that they knew they were going to die, but 3 of them were going to do something. The plane had just made a U-turn and was heading back towards DC at the time of the crash. Those brave souls and the other innocent passengers on board that plane, appear to have prevented another urban catastrophe from happening by sacrificing their own lives.

The saddest thing about 11 September 2001, Tuesday of Terror, is that it could have been prevented with tighter airport security, or by the people on board the planes. If the American public wasn’t so accustomed to being pushed around, someone, if not everyone on board each of the other planes might have also made an attempt to overtake the terrorists. I don’t think we’ll ever see that mistake again. Better to lose a handful of lives rather than an entire plane-ful, better a plane-ful than an entire building and plane both filled with people…

Our country and the whole world will change after this devastating event. Due to the United States’ diversified mixture of cultures, races and religions, an attack on the U.S. is equivalent to an attack on all nations. I sense that this will turn into a World War III. A different kind of world war, where the entire world is focused on fighting terrorism, rather than each other. Hopefully, a greater sense of world unity and peace will be born from the planting of such a terrible and evil seed of terrorism.

It will be a difficult war, as terrorism exists in many forms inside and outside the United States and occurs on a daily basis. It disturbed me to read one of the flashes at the bottom of the TV screen last night, that read “NY police report no unusual looting”… To even think that someone would try to take advantage of a situation like this is repulsing. “No unusual looting”? There should have been no looting at all. What kind of society are we where the weak are preyed upon by the angry? Terrorism occurs everytime a person is attacked, raped, abducted, or slain, everytime property is stolen, damaged, or destroyed. The terrorists that struck in NY and DC could have been anywhere, they could have been at our local airport, they could have rented cars locally, they could have been living in our neighborhoods, or our apartment complexes, we could be passing by them as we drive through town, or push our shopping carts through the grocery store.

Now I’m not saying this to make everyone become paranoid, I’m saying it because it is possible. Not many people would have expected terrorists to hijack airplanes from Boston, yet 2 were successfully hijacked. Terrorism is most effective where it is not expected. The idea that a massive terrorist attack on U.S. soil was widely dismissed as impossible, yet now, unfortunately, it has occurred. Awareness is the key. If we are aware that these situations can occur anywhere, and can occur to us, then we can think about that. If we conisider the possiblities, then if something terrible occurs, we might at least have an inkling of what to do.

There is no punishment great enough to inflict upon the misguided, and spineless creatures responsible for these cowardly and aimless attacks of terror.

May God rest the souls of the innocent people and the heroes who try to save them, as well as protect those who were injured or are still trapped in the rubble left behind.
