Alex, Your thread is incredible, it must be a great online class!

"what do you use to sculpt the sculptures for the animated films ? is it something like SuperSculpey ? "
Yes, but I’ve learned now at Gentle Giant that wax is the way to go. The sculptors go from oil clay to mold, wax copy, clean up wax, mold again, resin copy. You can learn on sculpy though. Lots of sanding though.
Teyon "Well, I found the bits the giant was used in Scott Spencer’s book very helpful so even if the giant got cut, big thank you for letting him use it. "
Scott let me write a bit in there too. I liked the picture he did of the giant dancing around.
your giant is really great !
This isnt Golden Axe but it is game related. This is a Turok we did. It was rigged so that poses could be done and rendered, and approved as the basis for paintings used in advertising. Not much painting over in this ad though…
Turok looks great. Hah, i remember playing the original Turok back in the Day on the nintendo. Back then the only good games were Turok or Mario.

SzeJones: May I see the wireframe of Tyris?
All our wires were retopoed later. So we didn’t worry abut them too much…
Great Thread! Incredible work!
I’m a Fan of GGS… You guys push out awesome work!
Hello Mr. McPherson,
I don’t like Turok game, but your character is well done and clean, nice. I like clean models, without too much details and many unnecessary “little objects”.
Sorry if I do a repeated question, but: How many times do you spend for a model like Tyris (from first raw mesh to final retopo-mesh, without the dreft and the “first creation” concept)? Thanks
Mattia
I’ve found out that Sze Jones created the topology for the head and torso of Tyrus, that I Zbrush sculpted on.
Thanks Sze!
Thanks SixxPixels,

I think we were spending about a week doing initial sculpting and painting. Not sure how long with changes, retopo, transfer sculpture detail, adding paint details, plus armor + equiptment.
It’s very awesome …
great images jim! i had great time helping out on this project and learned alot.
great results, congrats with top row.
This is a concept model for the Summoner.
I tried to build him with wirey Gil Kane anatomy from memory. Gil Kane was a comic artist known for his dynamic anatomy. (as seen below)
great work ! where i can find more sketchs from Gil Kane ( or other greats that you know ) ? its full of energy…
There are Trade Paperback reprints that I am reading right now called Showcase: the Atom Volume 1 and 2 from DC. They are 500 pages each of Gil Kane art. There’s a Green Lantern Volume 3 that is also great.
I’ve pulled a lot of images off of Ebay. Sketches, preliminaries. He also worked on Spider-man, Conan, and lots of other fun stuff.
This is the Queen of the Dead. The paint was all tightened up later by Mark Dedecker.
