ZBrush For Illustration DVD - Meats Meier

IMHO
this is one of the best and the one we have been hoping
someone would make.
It truly defines zbrush as a standalone program.

Yep! It is the one i have been waiting for. Meats’ Introduction DVDs were a HUGE help for me. UPS just delivered my Illustration ones a couple of hours ago… After scrubbing through them I expect these are going to be just as helpful :+1:

It should definitely address everything folks complained about with the “Intro to ZBrush” set. This goes way beyond the basics, does focus on one project the whole time, shows techniques you probably haven’t taught yourself, and manages to avoid the word “pallete” entirely. If you liked that set, this is an amazing followup. If you were turned off by it, I suspect this is even better.

Perhaps more importantly, I think this addresses everything folks complain about with ZBrush itself.

I’m not entirely sold on the title of this volume. “Infinite Freedom in ZBrush” or “Infinite Complexity with Meats Meier” might have sold more copies. The basic idea is that when you’re not worried about exporting for animation, you can do ANYTHING. And if you’re clever with your layers, you have even more power. The name “ZBrush for Illustration” doesn’t really convey a sense of expansiveness like that.

I guess it’s a series, though. Volume 1: the Arm Upgrade. Which means one of these days, they’ll be announcing Volume 2. Which means I’ll stop complaining about the title now.

Okay, this is an incredible DVD, GET IT. 10/10. Thanks meats.

However, is it just mine, or does the 4th chapter repeat once when it gets to around 1/3rd time? It still plays fine, I’m just wondering if this is a glitch in just mine, or a production error. If it’s a glitch in just mine, then I need to scrub through and see if anything was pushed out at the end of the dvd for this. To be sure, are the last lines spoken on the first dvd “This pixol technology” ?

This doesn’t change my opinion of the set at all, it’s an incredible resource, and I already learned so much, I just wanted to know.

Yeah. One of the chapters on mine looped. 4th chapt sounds about right… I still haven’t finished watching yet, but I have to agree… Incredible DVDs :+1:

Had the same. But obviously no chapter is missing. So it’s a glitch. Maybe they become collectors Item… 8=)

Does anyone recall the post from sometime c.2002-2010 that’s a 2.5D illustration of a space captain with a ray pistol coming to the rescue of a woman in the grip of a giant reptilian monster with a big tree (kind of a Golden Age sci-fi King Kong concept)? There was a post with a lot of tutorial in it. Can anyone point me there?
And/or, what are the best resources for someone wanting to use ZB for illustration/2.5D?

I’m pretty sure that image was featured in the top row. If you work your way through the Top Row Gallery, you should find it. You’ll also find other illustrative threads.

Check out threads about Huxley, for example.

As for tutorials, look for tutorials on NPR (non-photoreal rendering). ZBrush has some excellent tools for that. You’ll find great examples of its use in the Top Row Gallery and some of those topics include discussions and even presets.

Thanks, Aurick!
That was easier than I thought it would be. It’s Daniel Lieske’s “Saving the Alien Girl”.
Here’s a link to his site if anyone’s interested:
