Speaking as someone who doesn’t own Zbrush and sticks to relitively simple programs like Poser and Sketchup for my 3D needs, I’m confused and excited. LOL!
There are so many great products out now, having said that, Zbrush seems to have a broader range of features than most and, importantly for me, includes lots of painting tools.
I’ve been vastly impressed by the feature previews shown in this thread, but have to admit when I first downloaded the demo the interface scared the crap out of me!
Instead of some images of pretty sculptures, the welcome screen should have the words Don’t Panic! in large red letters, blimey it’s different and BIG.
This kind of scarey ‘stuff’ has kept me away from serious 3D software for years, assuming that the learning curve presented would be too large an investment of time in something I wasn’t sure of in the first place.
But I keep coming back to check out Zbrush and the amazing stuff in the gallery, I’m hooked and will almost certainly be buying Zbrush. Having downloaded the practical guide and watched various movies, I wanna play!
Mudbox’s interface does look much friendlier than Zbrushes, there is no doubting that, but given that most of the controls shown on-screen seem similar (in function at least) to controls available in Zbrush and that Zbrushes interface is so customisable, this problem (for quaking newbies like me) shouldn’t be too tough to overcome.
Maybe Pixologic could hold a competition for custom interfaces for the confused (perhaps separate UI’s for specific tasks a la’ Zketchpad) and put to use the huge resource of talented Z-scripters?
Or am I over-estimating the demand for a simpler interface?
