ZBrush 2018 Has Arrived!

I have to thank you guys yet again. I bought zbrush and returned it a few weeks later not being able to get over the learning curve. A few years later I bought it a second time, and I’ve been on the rollercoaster since then.

Zbrush has easily been the single best investment for digital work for me.

Are you the Gareee from the old DAZ days?

When I played with Sculptris 2 years ago, I always though “why this subdivide brush feature didn’t exist in zbrush?” Its so great and dynamic.
It’s really nice to see that my wish became true

On the ZBrush 2018 feature page at the bottom it says:

“OBJ Import will not accept Color Vertex information”

Did you guys mean now instead?

Late to the party here. I never would have known there was a new Zbrush version out if I hadn’t decided to drop by ZBC, which is something I do infrequently these days. Used to be I’d get an email or something.

If you’ll pardon one little bit of nitpicky feedback, I really wish you would nip this “Cones of Dunshire” interface for the deformers in the bud, before you get too attached to it. I’m speaking as someone who loves the transpose action lines and finds them reasonably intuitive, so you know I’m not simply opposed to novel control schemes, but the cones aren’t intuitive at all for me.

They require a lot of hunting and pecking, trial and error, even with the mouseover labels. Sometimes there can be 15 different cones on the screen at once! Furthermore they rely on increasingly subtle shades of color to differentiate at a glance, but not every human perceives color in the same way, or at all.

I dont have any better ideas, sadly. Im not an interface designer. Im sure there’s no simple solution for trying to keep a minimal interface onscreen to do as many different things at once as you’re trying to do with the deformers. But I find myself avoiding the use of the otherwise very handy deformers in favor of more direct, intuitive approaches to manipulating geometry because I dont want to have to muddle through all those cones.

I have a question is this Zbrush 5 or has pixologic taken a Autodesk style yearly update schedule for now?

All releases going forward will be named using the release year. If more than one release happens in the same year then it would have a point number – ZBrush 2018.1 for example.

Pixologic will continue with the same development philosophies and cadence that we’ve always had. The only thing changing is the switch to a numbering system that is less confusing for the general public. :slight_smile:

I’m downloading the 2018 version now. However, as part of the process, the site said it sent an email of the serial number. I no longer have the email that the license is registered to and therefore can not get that email.

Can you tell me how I can change the email address that is attached to this license?

Basically, 2 new items, sculptris integration and deformers… what do yall do with your cash and time besides promo work… how about a new propper render engine. that dont take hours to set up. remove the one in it now and do a deal with Corona so i could send my renders straight to corona…how about filmic colour space. get rid of the rgb system… i feel fir let down buy the update to be honest…just my opinin and we all know they just like xxx holes…o well…btw iv been lurking here since you opened up shop… i slowly will be moving over to Blender when i get my nvidia card. zbrush blender and md is a nice set up. As autodesk have ruined my 3asmax… 5 hour boot time 4 min menu open time…its a joke. …pick up me new ssd tomorrow see if that helps… cheers anyay guys

Anyway, thanks for the update. One of the first things I wanted to do when I was learning Zbrush was to turn off Draw Transform border - bravo!

Also love saving the startup material, as I always use a customized material now and bringing it in was a step I had to do every time.

Remembering draw size and dynamic size is the feature I didn’t realize I wanted, but so glad you made it.

Stop giving free updates, time you guys got a raise.

Wait why stop giving free updates? It generates massive Goodwill and they make up for that in raising the price of the full product
They’re the industry standard, lit every studio and toy designer uses them, they make a profit lol

Recently I switched to 2018. It’s a great update!

Though I have the feeling somthing is up with the classic “move” brush.
It feels like the performance became noticeable worse compared to R8.
Anyone else got this feeling?
