Work in progress - (warning: nudity and potentially offensive religious content)

I am not really religious so personally I’m not offended by this. However, I would advise against you putting this in your portfolio or demo reel when you are finished, because I could see how people would be offended.

I think that you could do a little more to show off the anatomy of how the girls legs are so twisted and hyper extended. Right now they just look like they were bent and have nothing supporting the weight of the rest of their body. I think you could work at it more to show the weight being put on the knees and how they are holding themselves up. The hands also don’t make total sense yet. Are they upside down praying? if they are you need to press the palms and fingers together and it would read a lot better.

You should add nails! nails are a great way to show torture and pain. You could nail the girls hands together or nail their legs to the ground. I would like to see more pain and more grotesqueness to really pull this piece into the realm its going.

The thread is not going to be deleted, but I will delete posts (from either side) that devolve into zealotry.

The title of the thread has been edited to provide ample warning. [COLOR=White]I ask that the artist respect this by editing all inserted images to use the ATN and /ATN tags instead of ATT and /ATT. That way the images will not appear in the bottom row and so it won’t be possible for someone to get to the thread without clicking on the warning.

If you’re offended by this thread, don’t view it.

Thanks.

SCSMod_90 those are some great tips! Thanks aurick I’ll change the image tags from now on.

…who’s not offended by this. I agree with the above crit. Right now the poses are really sloppy. If you want this to look like more than broken dolls you need to get in there and add wrinkles and distortions around the areas where the limbs are bending wrong. But maybe you just haven’t got to that step yet.

Just out of curiosity… and I’m not trying to stoke any flames here, I’m seriously curious… do you have a definite message you are trying to communicate, or are you just doing the typical “arty” thing of just kludging sacrilegious imagery together and assuming the gestalt result must be deep? I mean, if you have a real message, more power to ya.:+1: But if you’re just being offensive for the sake of it, I’ve lost all interest in you.

Maybe you should offer to give away your meshes on the condition that downloaders read some selected quotes from Aleister Crowley. :stuck_out_tongue:

Ok, thanks for the comment but its more counterproductive then anything.

I feel this is coming along as a good piece. I don’t understand how you came across to see this as an attack on you personally and why you’d post a comment about how bad the quality of my modeling is. This piece or any other piece of artwork is and never will be a direct attack on ‘your’ religious beliefs. I couldn’t see your argument as anything other than a control issue and that artwork needs to be within your realm of understanding. Don’t throw the word Christianity around like it should hold weight over another mans creativity. I’m making artwork, if you don’t like it then I’m sure you know what to do with yourself. This artwork is not as horrific as any bloody mess jesus dangling on the cross you can find anywhere on the internet and I could care less about what cult you focus your life by. And no, the idea was conceived in about 5 minutes, no message was intended so don’t try to understand it. Its just a picture

:laughing:small_orange_diamond:+1:

Note: I actually finally registered just to post in this thread, so go warnings on titles!

One: I think the concept is cool, probably would be usable in some horror work. I really dig the backwards supplication/prayer pose, though as SCSMod_90 pointed out, their wight does need to be more believably supported. My big thing on them, though, is how do you plan on dealing with their leg anatomy? Will you reverse the entire knee, or show more detail on the hyperextension of the knees, possibly with some good old blood and gore? Might I suggest the back of their knees being slit to allow the bend? I realize that sounds a little sick, but this definitely brings me to mind of some form of sinister worship scene in a horror setting.

Dos: The demon on the crucifix seems to have an abnormally small head. Is this by design?

Trois: I rather like the overall image, and aside from these two big hiccups, I think it looks great. Keep up the good work.

Vier: Also, this is from personal standpoint, but I can just see arteries all throughout the rock base, in my mind.

I am NOT a christian but I have respect for their religion.
What you are doing here is in my opinion extremely naive and dehumanizing.
I suggest that you search your heart and ask yourself what it is that you wish to communicate because at this moment all that is coming across is a very poor artist with an even poorer sense of self esteem.
You may not like what I am saying but I DO NOT LIKE your approach at all.
If you were in my art class at the university you would be seriously challenged not just by me as instructor but by all your fellow students. This is really low grade work.

We should call the company as “munsterology” after all I have seen here (in this forum I mean).
Now this thread offended some people.
Its sounds like a joke and not a good one.
This ‘nudity warning’ is,… I haven’t see such a warning in front of great museums. Or at Cappella Sistina…

Interesting work, the use of symbols in art its not the best way to go IMO. Lets concentrate in shapes colors composition etc.

The nudity warning is to protect those who are at the workplace, those whose eyes will burn at the sight of some naked boobs and those like yourself that for some reason read my post because I said theres some boobs in it. Really, everyone knows there’s boobs at the museum, why post a warning?

Don’t worry guys, I’m going to make it real good you’ll be proud!

“those like yourself that for some reason read my post because I said theres some boobs in it”
I’m trying to read as many threads as possible and I’m individual enough for you and not like some others.

Wait… Were you responding to me? I hope you were responding to one of the others above my post because I said explicitly:

Please note the word “NOT”.

Our different belief systems aside, I gave you a crit that would apply if you were making an alien or a football player. It has nothing to do with the subject matter. Someone before me mentioned it, and someone after me. That should be evidence that I’m not pulling criticism out of my ass because I have some theological ax to grind. I really don’t.

If you weren’t talking to me: all apologies.

Ok. Fair enough. I was just stating a preference. I like symbolic art to have some thought behind it. It seems like if you are going to utilize icons that are culturally significant you have the advantage of leveraging a huge language of images. But with no thought about it, it’s sort of like scribbling random words on a page. Again… JUST MY OPINION. FEEL FREE TO DO WHATEVER YOU WANT. I HAVE NO DESIRE TO CONTROL OR CENSOR YOU.

Just speaking as one artist to another. Life is too short to walk around angry with a chip on your shoulder, ya know?

Its cool man, I hope we can just put it behind us and go back to being friends. michalis, sorry about the upsetting scenery, and the comment was rude and I appologize. I appreciate everyones comments and time spent viewing this piece, I’ll make the adjustments to the model and have an update shortly.

Cool man. Looking forward to an update.

I’ll be very interested in seeing how you deal with the limbs bending the wrong way.
