top galery!top galery! :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

Mike, that has turned out very nicely! Can’t wait to see the painted up version. :+1:

wow nice going, I love this ! great modeling, you sure took the time. Very nice indeed!

Nice additions

Very, very nicely done!

Mahlikus, That came out SOOO Sweeet. Excellent
lighting, modeling, design and overall execution. I would love to learn what settings you used for the lighting. I can do that in Lightwave but am still a neophyte in Z-Brush when lighting is concerned. Thanks for sharing him with us…: )
I agree, Top Shelf material here…

Dickie

Bravo!!
Excellent job

Thank you for the comments everyine.

Dickie - Its actually quite simple. The settings are merely things Pixolator spilled to us here and there. From Pixolator: ā€œWhen rendering with GI shadows, you should set the left-side of the material-diffuse-curve to high value (between half to Max ). This allows the surface to receive light even when it is facing away from the light-source. When this is combined with GI shadows (especially with Uni mode ) you’ll get a more realistic diffusion-falloff.ā€
NOw I particularly donot like High uni settings but at the same time find it better to have some then non so settings of 30 to 50 is what I use. Also, I find the more rays the better (if your system can handle it fast enough). 280 is a setting Pixolator used in his Dino Egg Document sample. Aperture setting of 90.

sweet model Mtb!
i have been watching this guy evolve for quite a while and he has really turned out great. nice placement of detail. i love the last render too!

Hi MtB
Cool Model and Page setting :sunglasses: :+1:
Pilou

Mahlikus, Thank you for the lighting help. It’s funny, I turned up the rays yesterday to 26 on a light and I was wondering if I went too far…lol…Good to know I can push the rays limit past 26…

And a BIG congratulations on getting your character in the top gallery…He certainly desrves to be there…Woot!!!

Dickie

Thank you.

Another tip for you. If you have more then one light, may I suggest you only turn shadows on for the main (usually the first) light and leave the shadows off with the others. Same for turning on ZMode. Main light only. As for the rays and aper, these setting effect all lights and not just the one that is selected so don’t waste time adjusting the rays on different lights. If your system can’t handle big settings then try this, its a nice and fast render.

Rays:60
Ap: 25
Uni: 30
Lenght: 150
Intensity:100
Blur: 4

Take care and Happy ZBrushing.

woah go Mike go! . lookin at this fellah is giving me itchy feet to dive into ZB. One question, is it all modelling tools, or did you use a bit of Projection Master with it, the only crit i can offer is that he seems to be perfectly symmetrical, other than that, he is perfect :+1:

Thanks Paul. I’ll run him through some desymmetrical modeling. =) There is only one thing I used PM for and that was to round out the eyes. Everything else is pure modeling.

On another note, I have had a few request about my material settings and lighting setup. So, I decided to create a sample document of my general settings for everyone to pick apart.

Enjoy!

Thank you for posting your settings, Mahlikus!
Here is a rendering of my Lich with your materials and lights. The second more etherial one was rendered with your settings then post effects added in Photoshop.

Awesome! You are very welcome too! :+1: :+1: :+1:

sweet! i can’t wait to try the settings. i have been trying some on my own but i m sure this is better. thanks for sharing!

artboy

Thanks a lot Mahlikus! That’s a really cool looking set up, can’t wait to try it! - Baz

You must update us/me on how much is occuring with the displacement (painting/painterly) vs how much is edge, face, vert modelling.

Like to see cage vs image map, side by side.

I’m still learning about ZBrush strictly from reading, unfortunately.

This model is coming along very nicely over time.

Thank you for the comments.

Markyjerky: its all pure modeling with polys…all 1.7 million of them.
Displacement only occurs in ZBrush when generating a map from a lower poly cage…this is usually done after the modeling is done but before export for other applications. Since I am leaving this guy in Z, there is no need to generate the displacements.
