Wings3D Alien Head (Low-poly)

… not ENTIRELY off topic:

due to the possibilities of Wings - shown in this newest example here - I have received some questions of MAC-users concerning of what mouse to use/how to get to the right-mouse-button-menu’s.

So, if anbody could manage do post a short hint…!?
Thank you!!

Thanks for the comments guys.
I redid the eyes, lips and ears…still need the neck.

As for the mac info, I’ll do some digging for you.

Thank you so much (for helping me out)!

Just another question concerning building your model: as it seems you did NOT use the mirror function in Wings (modelling one half of the head, and then mirroring it)? Must have been tedious to move all those verts symmetrically?

dpvtank: thats an interesting link. i guess i was thinking that most stuff made completely in zbrush is not as easy to animate. but with another app and some experience it seems possible. i have no experience in animation, so i could be completely wrong about all of this. what i am really looking forward to is the next version of zbrush, where i think we will b able to do some animation.

MTB: updates look nice!

Actually. You are right. For animation, such dense meshes cannot be used. It would slow down the animation process too much. They usually have a very low poly version of a model on which they animate and then just replace it or something with the high poly object.

Mahlikus The Black: I feel like an idiot. I didn’t comment on your work. I think it looks great. However, in the last image you posted, has that image been zbrushed? or is it still wings3d?

The rendered version is ZB…the next one after is a screenshot in wings. I am not going into ZB yet…still need to set then neck and shoulder geometry.

As for the question on using a mirror. I always do, no butts about it.

can you post a wire with some of your edgeloops? I really like it how you’ve maintained good edge loops throughout the model. Are there specific ones you tried to focus on? or was it all just natural when you modelled it?

RE: right-click menus on a Mac – any two- or three-button USB mouse should work on recent Macs.

BUT the Mac users should borrow such a mouse and try it out before buying one, just to make sure that right-click menus are supported in the Mac version of Wings3d (sorry, don’t know – I have a PC).

They could also try Control-click, Opt-click and Command-click to see if any of those pop up the menus.

Microsoft has an optical usb mouse for about US $15-20 that is symmetrically shaped, i.e., it could be used either left- or right-handed, and it doesn’t get bumpy from lint build-up like rollerball mice do. This works fine on a couple of G4 Macs at work.

Well, the edgelooping was far from coming naturally. I had a lot of hours of research and mesh debugging to get it right. I mean debugging because I wanted to make sure there weren’t ANY tris anywhere. Its all quads. I also wanted to focus on edgeloops for animation…eyes. mouth…you know. And to keep it all going…make sure the ears and nostrals had them to.

that’s definately going good!
can you share what techniques you used to “debug” the mesh?

hopefully I’m not annoying you with these questions

@havran: thank you for the info!!
@MTB: it was one of the biggest obstacles to say “bye” to those tri’s - I mean: first you learn that ONLY using three sided poly’s will bring you those wanted round shapes, and then… completely the other way around!!

dpvtank - Let me see if I can get a link for you.

zerebrush - I know what you mean though I am starting late in the game. As far as my learning goes, quads are the only way. The lure of tris is hard thoug…lol.

Here is the new head tweaked in ZBrush. I can’t really add the detail I would like right now so I am going to texture it as is and hopefully do some detailing there.

looking forward to seeing them details on.

Also looking forward to the link.

MTB – the technical stuff is over my head, but it looks good :+1:

Thanks guys.

Here is another with a few tweaks…wanted to take the eyes off the same plane. Need to redo/remove the center skull structure and refine the ears and neck.

bombastic modeling,great detail!!! :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

Thanks.

Sorry about being so late with the tips dpvtank…I cant seem to find the info…I’ll make movie or something about them.

To zerebrush:

On a Mac with one mouse buttion, got to Edit, Camara settings. Set the Mouse function to Nendo, one mouse button.

The functions to operate Wings is as follows:

Control Click: Is right mouse click. Opens your menu for creating, and editing objects.
Option Click: This is the Pan mode.
Option + Click + Click Hold: This is your zoom function.

In all honesty though, I’d suggest getting a two button mouse with a scroll wheel. Any USB mouse will work, including Microsofts Intellimouse. In Wings, at least on my Mac, don’t know about my PC, you can zoom in with the scroll wheel too. I also use the Maya layout because I find it to be more comfortable while working in Wings.

Mahlikus:

And I can’t wait to see your alien head when the new Zbrush comes out! I can just see the detail your gonna put in it! Good job so far!

Poor Mac mouse
