Will Smith _ I Am Legend _ Moviefest challenge

Nothing bad about learning from others and the LOU characters are great! It just feels like you got too enchanted with the details and haven’t concentrated enough on developing the base for them - it feels like the wrinkles are drawn on tubes, there’s no shape to the shoulders, arms or legs that could describe the form under the clothes
 Even through fabric you want to feel what’s below. You did a great job with the details but didn’t put enough thought and love into how they’d actually fall.

I agree with the elbow critique. It seems like the scales extend too far above and below the elbow point. Otherwise, great work. I don’t mind the likeness to The Last of Us sculpts. I feel you have every right to match them technically, which you have come close to doing, which in turn makes it seem very similar. Maybe using the planes for hair goes beyond the technical. Wonderful likeness nonetheless.

I agree it looks a lot like the Last of Us models, but this is not a bad thing at all in my opinion, I hope that in the future I’m good enough to emulate that style :slight_smile:

I think really the main critique is the Sleeves, the folds don’t look natural and I think you should make the sleeves less baggy overall I think that would help it look like its sitting on his arm better. I’m sure you’ll fix this pretty easily anyway you have real talent sir!

I’m not sure why The Last of Us was even brought up – this is hardly the first or the last time little planes are used to depict hair. Yes it looks like it should belong in the LoU thread, but that’s a compliment! This is outstanding work. That’s why niggles like the sleeve or the elbow stand out even more, because the rest looks so accomplished. Well done!

thats why i brought up the LoU. cause the models look too identical for my taste, not because of the hair planes.

but as said by others, thats not a bad thing and its well done.
its just that i prefer creating to recreating :slight_smile:

Thanks guys for your comments, I changed the folds on his sleeves and modified the elbow thing and I guess it looks better now. I also tried to modify the thing Intervain mentioned about the basic form of his sleeves and pants. tried to do something that you could feel his arms and legs more.

some crits : i would tone down the veins on his hands. especially near his fingers.

and also you should work some more on his shoes. they feel a bit squashed.
also the overal shape feels weird, almost like duck feet :stuck_out_tongue:

im missing this shape, try to incorporate that in the overall form :

Thanks guys, I’m going to upload some models I did for my moviefest entry over the past 2 month in my free time. Here comes the zombie model I did. Because we were allowed to change some parts of the movie, I decided to create zombies instead of those infected people who were able of talking, thinking and worst of all healing; I didn’t like those features for people who have turned to monsters. To me the best example of zombies are those from AMC’s TV show, The Walking Dead. Kind of creatures who cant feel, cant think, cant talk and cant heal. That’s what I wanted for my work. So I used those walkers as my references to come up with this:

First I did it in A stand pose

Then I gave it the gesture in zbrush. After that I did his hair using fibermesh and used mostly strong brush to give it the style I wanted.

Some more updates, Here you can see the environment I did. I tried to create a post apocalyptic version of a street of Newyork city and had something in mind that was mixture of that of I am legend, The devision and The last of us:

love your work very much , but i have a simple question about your hair technique , how i can strt mastering it like u do , the plane modeling hair is just a mystery to me :smiley:

Thanks. For getting a good result from Creating hair with plans you need to have Patience. The more time you spend on painting textures,opacity map and placing them on character’s head, the better result you get. lots of plans on his head have only 1 polygon. this gives you the chance to get a good result without using too much polygons.
