Why is my HDR image always zoomed in?

Hello all.

I have a very large HDR file, 8000 x 4000 resolution (as recommended in the Light palette). When loading this into ZB, the image appears zoomed in, which certainly isn’t what I want. Even after resizing the document to match the image size and loading the image into the background, it becomes even MORE zoomed in. The “zoom” slider is set to 1 (default).

Any ideas? I’d like to see the entire image as a background, but not sure how to go about this. Probably just doing it wrong…

Thanks for the help.

If you are loading the texture into Light > Background, and creating a LightCap from that, you have to remember that ZBrush is wrapping the texture 360* which is how HDRI’s work. What you could do is scale your image down inside a bigger image (see attached image). If you are making a LightCap, then ZBrush is sampling the whole image so you can’t have an image surrounded by black. You will have to have the rest of the image resembling the image you are using for the background. In the image below, I just loosely painted in color information, but you can also make copies of your image and just paste them around the edges. You don’t have to be too fussy with that part. So make your texture about 8000 x 4000 and put your background into that. You will just have to play around with how large the center portion (your background) should be.

Thank you very much zber. That explains things perfectly. I appreciate your help.
