Who is responsible for GoZ?

With 10+ years of Lightwave experience under my belt, I was sorry to see it go (I personally kept using LW for another year after we had frozen future projects in LW), but after using other packages, I can see why we couldn’t put our bets on Newtek. Seat price means very little if it takes hours to work around Lightwave’s technical limits.

Oh I can see that alright, and I definitely agree. For now at least. I’m anxious to see what Core has to offer, but I’m not counting on it and by the time it’s all done there’s a good chance I’ll have moved on anyway.

I don’t work for a studio though. I’m a hobbyist slowly breaking into freelancing. I’ll continue to use LW 9.6 for a while, at least for modeling and still renders and simple logo animations, but by the end of this year I’m going with either Softimage or Maya, as my animation abilities have outgrown what I can do easily in LW. Not to mention dynamics, hair and fur, which is and has been pretty weak in Lightwave.

It’s nice to know that if I go with Maya, GoZ will be there, and I’m assuming it will reach Softimage soon enough, but I’d still like to see a GoZ for LW.

Well if Pixologic is providing the API - then it would appear NewTek would be responsible for getting GoZ working.

I can’t comment on anything specific, but NewTek devs have their hands and plates full with Core development. That has to be their priority for quite some time to come. I just don’t see GoZ strategy until well after the release of Core v1.0. It would just make more sense then.

In the meantime many Lightwave users already use Modo and other apps for modeling where we can use GoZ. LW 9.6 Layout is still a solid application for rendering/animation which Modo isnt quite up to yet.

Whilst I don’t disagree with anything you are saying, yours is still just an opinion or educated guess. I have asked the question here, and at newtek, and ‘no reply’ was the deafening response.

Gordon - as another poster on NT’s Core forum noted the same. The “deafening silence” to seemingly very pertinent questions exists. All you can try is repost or better, start a New Thread. If repeated attempts fail to get answers from the devs, then one can start to draw some conclusions. If not - try, try, and try again.

As with all early software development - in this case core, I’m sure, getting their house in order supersedes the interaction with external programs.
