Who is going to see ZB3 in action tomorrow at Gnomon?

great thanks Matt for taking the time to give us your impressions! I definately agree that the transpose functionality will have a great impact on the quality of still artwork that we’ll see. if it’s near as easy to pose as shown in the videos, it opens up a whole new world of possibilities, just like subtools (layers) does. also, the way I see it, transpose is also a valuable tool in the modeling stage and not just to pose the finished model. I guess the level of freedom that subtools give you on the surface level, transpose gives you at the mesh level.

another thing that has me excited is the mention of a massive speed increase in zb3 vs zb2. Michel Roger (well known modeler) mentioned on cgtalk that: “Yep, but i’m beta tester for Zbrush3 and, hem… it’s far far faster than Mudbox, an other world, I can make all the details I want (on a 3Ghz, 2Go PC).” (note that he is french, hence the slight grammatical errors)

I tried the Mudbox demo and it’s no slouch, so if this is accurate it will have an amazing impact.

also, is there anything you can say regarding the demonstrated remeshing functionality?

again, thanks for the info Matt, it’s greatly appreciated!

Many thanks for taking the time to give us your impressions, but

you left out the most important thing.:+1:

Were the restrooms clean?

unfortunately, we didn’t get to see any remeshing functionality during the demo. scott spencer was asked directly by an audience member to demo it. he said he couldn’t because he had not really used it–they mostly use an app called paraform or gsi to do their remeshing at gentle giant studios. he did, however, mention that they are starting to use z3’s remeshing tools at gentle giant, but did not give us any indication as to how well they stacked up against the tools he currently uses.

regarding the restrooms…not too bad. PM me if you want details regarding decor, air freshening devices, single or double ply, etc…

he turned on perspective briefly at the end of the demo and said he could change the FOV, but didn’t use it much beyond that.

So this to me sounds like there is no real time perspective camera when you are working it is just like it is now where you have to go out of edit mode and turn it on?

Can you elaborate on the perspective camera a bit more?

i can’t really elaborate on it much more. if my memory serves me (and it often doesn’t), i believe he was in edit mode, clicked the perspective button, and it popped into perspective. no need to re-draw. he didn’t actually do any editing, but that was because this was during the q and a session–he said he forgot to use it earlier because he was so used to not having it in zbrush 2. he never explicitly stated that he could edit while in perspective mode, but my impression was that he could have. why would pixologic mention it as a feature in z3 if it behaved exactly the same as zbrush2?

Yeah I donno it seems more odd to me that he wasn’t in it the whole time, in my opinon it is one of the greatest advantages of mud over z right now. Working strictly in an non perspective viewport is madness imo.

double ply!!!
WOW!!!
First class.

No the perspective camera works whenever its on. It is usually on by default so when I started and it was off I just didnt think to turn it on :stuck_out_tongue:
Perspective camera works while in edit mode, sculpting, posing, doing whatever.
Thats all I can say though. They still have my first born.

Whew, okay thanks for clearing that up Scott. Great to hear from you btw. any news about zb3 is good news

HI scott, thanks for clearing the perspective function details up.

All ZB3 needs now is a better lighting placment system, real universal translate tool, multi view ports and a nice SSS shader. and maybe some decent hair system but ZB3 has already exceeded my expectations before iv even used it.

I was really expecting to see vids from the Workshops up… is this going to happen? That or some sorta press release with pics.

Iv looked all over the net and couldnt find anythink about this event what so ever, other than Gnomon site itself. Its almost like it never happend. I would have thought that there would be alot of chat about it but no, nothink other than whats been posted in this thred.

You luckey ducklings… I wish they would do more zbrush events in San Francisco!
