What are your favourite films?

My 2 cents :
Best film : American Beauty.

Worst : Gingerdeadman.

Favourite, eh?
After giving it a real deal of thinking, I picked up one and only, unforgettable “Fight Club”. I love this movie! That is absolute No1 for me. I can watch it over and over again. The others are:

American Beauty
Lord of War
Requiem for a Dream
Collateral
Heat
Memento
Snatch
Last Samurai
Shipping News

and many, many others… Not so easy to browse through 450+ titles in Your video Library

The worst would be:

Doom Generation
Breakfast of Champions (I liked the book though)
Apocalypto (last time I had seen so much blood , it was in Kill Bill and then it was clearly a joke)
The Others (after You guessed a plot in 4 min of the movie it was no fun anymore)
Scary Movies (all of them)
Air Force One
Dog Soldiers
Cabin Fever

(continued)

  1. Worst movie…am currently watching it…another sci fi channel stinker…Leeches…gelatin leeches dragged on the floor…geez…and leech hands puppets…efx budget must have been around $3.50…when our kids turn 40 or 50 I know these will be cheesy classics…but for now…omg…that movie stinks so bad, I had to bury my head in the cat’s litter box just to get fresh air…(if anyone worked on this movie on the forum…I understand, but the producers and directors…slaaaaaaaaapppps) and it was low budget…just found the budget numbers… £40,000 estimated…the makers obviously didnt watch any real leeches and their mode of moving about…LOL>…even with the hand puppets it still could have been handled a lot better…anyhoo…

…is a real freaky film : images, sound, story, music, mood…
David Lynch 1977 :
Maybe start section “Cult movie”

Pan’s Labyrinth. Wasn’t what I was expecting. Just terrifyingly beautiful.
Villian makes Hannibal Lechter look like a wimp.

Anything by David Lynch,(TV will never be the same after Twin Peaks, nothing has come around to beat it)Terry Gilliam, Tim Burton(except POA remake…what a stinker).
Shawshank Redemption (Read the short story!)
Everything Is Illuminated (Its Premium :p)
Irriversible (Wouldnt recommend everyone to watch, its shocking to the core)
Sin City (Cant wait for 300)
Donnie Darko (Cliche I know, but its great)
Old Boy (Korean Cinema at its best)
Bubba Ho-Tep (Bruce Campbell as Elvis battling a mummy in an old-age home…whats not to like!?!)
so much more

Worst…

All Roland Emmerich films…

One flew over the cuckoo’s nest
Two for the money
Three Amigos
Four Brothers
Five easy pieces
Six degrees of seperation
Seven faces of Dr. Lao
Eight legged freaks
Nine to five
Ten Commandments

Congratulations go to pride for being the first one to make me crack myself on this forum.

Heh.

Anyhow, my favourite film of all time is Darren Aronofsky’s The Fountain. That boy has the Midas touch. I’ve seen each of his movies and every one of them “resonates” with me on a deep level, as it was put earlier in this thread. However, The Fountain left me numb for three days after I saw it. I was moved to tears in the cinema. The most beautiful, profound, and significant movie I have ever seen, bar none.

List time:

  1. The Fountain
  2. Munich
  3. The Village

- Waking Life

  • Vanilla Sky
  • Adaptation
  • Shaun of the Dead
  • The Abyss
  • V for Vendetta
  • Cold Mountain

If I’d seen Pan’s Labyrinth, I have no doubt it would be somewhere on this list. I’ve been looking forward to seeing it for a long time.

#1 favorite movie: Princess Mononoke
#2 The Matrix Trilogy

A few of my other favorites in no particular order and I’m sure I’m leaving out a bunch:
V for Vendetta
My Neighbor Totoro
The Wall
Pirates of the Caribbean (both have been fantastic adventures)
Mind Game (a very bizarre, but very genius and uplifting experimental anime film)
Shaun of the Dead (best zombie film ever)
Finding Nemo
The Incredibles
American Beauty
Fight Club
Batman Begins
Jurassic Park
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Ju-On (the Japanese original which The Grudge made a mockery of)
Terminator 1 & 2
The Crow
Bowling for Columbine (a subject deeply interwoven with my childhood and perspective of my country)
The Harry Potter Series (best book to movie translation ever – Peter Jackson could learn some things)

Movie I could appreciate but never wanted to see again:
Clockwork Orange

My most hated movie:
Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy… a subject I’m so passionate about that it actually got me banned from cgtalk… I’ve calmed down a bit since then :)… those books were one of my brightest and dearest childhood memories, and Peter Jackson walked all over those memories with terrible disregard

I looked back and am very very proud to note that nobody mentioned LotR in their top lists when almost everybody else that I meet immediately mentions RotK in any ‘favorite movie’ discussion

The Forbidden Zone!!!
yes that is one of the most bizarre films ever… a very eccentric friend of mine introduced it to me about a year ago… it’s a great movie for crazy wierded out funness with friends you’re very relaxed around

I want to list a few anime series that have had a major influence on me, but I’m running out of time before work

Time After Time

You should all check out IRREVERSIBLE by Gaspar Noe

let me know if you can handle it,
I have to say that it is the most intense movies I have ever seen :+1:

It's a foreign film, and Gaspar Noe is not afraid to show stuff as it is. I recommend seeing it once and only once(because it is graphic). You be glad you saw it :D especially if your an artist.

Requiem for a Dream is really good, one of my top top ten but IRREVERIBLE is really more powerfully.

I hope more people list some movies I have not seen or are not as well known, I am really sick of Hollywood and all the horrible stuff that I see.
I like ZBrush and all the special effects, but that’s about all those movies got going on. :-1:
That why I turn to foreign directors and other american directors.

I think the Sundance shorts are really good also. :+1:

Swimming to Cambodia
is also a very good one, featuring Spalding Gray(a performance artist 1987), it features Spalding who sits up on a stage with a glass of water and talks to a audience, Now that might seem as if it would suck, but the way he does it is amazing :grimacing: !

OK, dismantled.

What about ‘Night On Earth’ - have you seen that?
I think it’s an awesome film, and often wonder if there are other films like it.

If there are, someone please tell me.

that movie looks very cool,

sorry if I was little bullheaded about my movie tastes there are a lot of great films that are well known Like Star Wars for example.
Right now I am really into movies that are not funny. Movies that realistically examine life as it is now in a very artistic and thought provoking way.:+1:
I am a fine artist, I have to be inspired by something different out of the normal, or else I could not be an artist.
I find myself searching for something different but it’s getting harder to find.

Zbrush is something new and original it helps me be an artist.
Thats what I look for in a movie. but ever so often I just
watch Star Wars again because its fun and good:)
