Hi everyone at blur.

Thank you for the wire frame screen shots they are a real inspiration into the amount off work that you guys have to do.

Is there any chance we could see some UV Layout and Textures used.

Could you post some wireframe shots before and after the turbo smooth.

I would also like to see any concept art for the characters.

How many hours work go into your characters and props?

Thanks to everyone at blur for posting screen shots keep them coming as this thread is absolutely mind blowing.

:+1: :+1: :laughing:

Amazing work!!!:+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

Stunning, thats all I can say. :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

Very…very…very…cool… Awesome models on display here and I´m “THIS” close going to WAR!!

Well people here ask for more and more and more! Let’s just be grateful for all these awesome artists showed so far…

Sze you are an inspiration…from Kitty to Hellsgate to Conan and AoR your characters are beautiful and memorable. I know sometimes when the hours are long it can seem as “only” a job, but you are one of the few people who truly inspire others through their life’s work.

thank you for sharing this with us/me :slight_smile:

Have to say that the model proportions are near perfect :slight_smile: especially the females :slight_smile:

Keep up this quality work of art !

Thnx

@:[Blur]Jed:

Thank you so much for your post and infos, that’s awesome.

just a few more interesting things fromt the view of an lighitng guy…

@mental ray:
that seems to make modelers happy…
hmm, why is that ?
I mean, what is the feeback from your modellers to that specicif point ?

Everybody is invited to give me some feeback why you rather in mental ray you characters… that would be great…

Well, like I said, I really like Vray, and I think the only weakness from vray is maybr the skinshader, but that’s all. Did you ever use vray and would you recommend it for such a prdocution ?

I would love to make a very short animation, but I want to pick the right render in order to get such a great look…

@mythic:
so mythic provided full rigged, skinned and textured low res characters ?
or just the models, without the rigging ?

@sun and sky system:
allright, hmmm, well, did you use a specific exposure control ?
and did you use the the sky only for the skylight ?

hmm, if I understand you right, you put the cloud painted images into the enviornment slot, but you used the sky only as skylight to illuminate the whole scene, right ?

@Digital Fusion:
with some additional plugins , or just straigth the software tools ?

wow, would be awesome to know more about your max settings… thank you all for this great work, it’s really the worlds best stuff…

take care,
capu

Amazing and very inspirational work, just breathtaking.

Another Amazing One By Blur…

Thank you so much for the run down on the development and great work everyone involved.

This is unbelievable :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: !!!

My dream is to make art like yours ! Thank you very much for sharing this legendary characters . I am more than satisfied :sunglasses:

Like I said the skin shader was a big one, and equally important was the A&D material, that allows you to do almost everything else. We don’t have separate modeling and texture departments, so it’s very important for us dumb artists that the materials are not only powerful but also easy to setup. The way those mr mats are laid out makes immediate sense and give out spectacular results fairly quickly. From my standpoint that was the main reason mental ray made the modelers happy, they could render out beautiful sample stills themselves almost immediately.
I won’t compare Vray vs mental ray, but they’re both production proven renderers with very comparable features. If you like one better than the other then by all means use that one. At the end of the day it’s all in the artists’ eyes, and you should use whatever tool you’re comfortable with.
Fom a studio standpoint, we got some great help from mental images, and Zap Andersson in particular. Getting his help on a few problem shots was a huge bonus that made ME happy.

They provided both, but we only used the models and rerigged them in XSI, which is what we use for rigging and animation.

Pretty much, yea. Even though we rendered out a lot of elements separately. What we did was render out the environments with the sun and sky system, then rendered HDRI spherical images from the characters positions. The characters were then lit with these hdri images and rendered separately from the background.

Fusion is pretty solid out of the box, but we do use quite a few plugins and scripts to make our life easier.

All the concept art that Mythic has ever done for Warhammer Online lives here : http://www.warhammeronline.com/conceptart/index.php
That includes all the designs we used for the cinematic, even though we sometimes had to mix and match some for rigging and animation purposes. You guys should definitely go check it out, this is some seriously inspiring stuff. I dare anyone on this forum to not want to model one of these immediately :wink:

As far as schedules go, we usually plan between 3 and 5 weeks for our characters, depending on their complexity. That includes textures and shaders, but not rigging.

Thanks again all for the interest in the piece.

Jed

Thanks Jed I cannot thank you enough for answering and sharing with us all. I have always been a fan of your work.

3 to 5 weeks per character is pretty quick but at least you are human and it’s not 3 to 5 days then I would have given up.

Keep up the great work.:+1:

Very nice work !,
the hottie elf shadow warrior looks a bit like a vulcan …

L

Wow, it’s great to see these models up close and personal, I’m sure there’s plenty to learn just from viewing them. Very inspiring, thanks for sharing! :+1:
