The Torcher

vbdss - Thanks. Right now this is all max. It will go into Zbrush for the damage pass. I tend to model with single sided polies that I then use the shell modifier on to get depth and then work on that.

Plakkie - Agreed on the collar. The arm peices are done by modeling a body and then cutting it along the edges. I then shell them and turbosmooth. As far as working without a concept I don’t recommend it. I am just making it up as I go. It would be great if I had a fantastic concept, but I would spend forever trying to draw one. I am using some of the GOW images I have found now for somewhat of a guide, but by no means precise. The body is just more of a template and something for the normal map to get info on in bewteen the armor gaps. Yeah he is the flame thrower guy. Thanks

odhin - Thanks. Yeah I will rig him when I am done.

deepforest - Thanks. In the end all this detail will be a normal map on a much lower res character so rigging won’t be hard.

Plakkie - Sorry been working on a couple other things. Here are the boots in progress

pride - Thanks

Ah! Shoes! May I suggest some bolts like on the headpiece?
About the conceptsketches: I can’t draw myself, so for me it is very inspiring and hopegiving to see you come up with such a fenomenal model with ‘just making it up as you go along’! And then to think this is only the start: he’s going to be damaged and textured… Can’t wait!

super fun happy slide, * puts the boots on *, yaaaaaaay :D, this is awesome, I love it, keep it up

Plakkie - There you go on the bolts. Glad I could inspire you some.

Dark_Fire - Thanks

Added detail to the boots and did a render with the rest of the body. Removed the larger harness, I did not like the mass of it.

Yeah! Cool bolts! I luuuuuv’ bolts!
As I look at the total essembly (without pants) right now, the following strikes me:

you did away the larger harness 'cause of the mass of it. Personally, I liked that bulky look, but I can see how it would be difficult to connect it with the smooth curved body. However, that problem still exists now: the collar seems loose from the body, but I expect you’ll still have to get to that part right?
Now, the shoes, nice as they are with all those bolts ;), are really large and bulky, quite square. So it seems to me right now a conflic between the smooth curved style of the body/arms, and the bulky detailed style of shoes and headpiece.
Yet, I don’t know what you are going to do to the bodypiece; maybe you will add more plating and gear to it and the it will resemble head and shoes more… Just thinking aloud, still awesome modeling. Can you post a close-up of the hands? They look interesing. Are there any bolts on them?

wow thts realy nice model wit good detail,

Awesome model but I’m wondering how much and what has been done (…or will be done) in ZBrush?

Plakkie - Yeah the current underbody is just a template to design the armor around. I hope it all works together

Kruk - Thanks

crazer - No zbrush yet. Going to use Z for the damage

On a side note I had some time on a flight coming back from siggraph and did this doodle on the plane. Commence random image.

Z_Doodle_2.jpg

Nice doodle. For some reason, airplanes/airports and laptops just go together. I don’t know what it is, but my creative side comes out more when I’m traveling. I can’t believe you haven’t used any zbrush yet on the other model! That is in-sane. How much render time is it taking up the more detail you add? I would have normal mapped the hell out that thing. You got balls… balls of adamantium.

Firerbert - Yeah I always get inspired traveling. The render time is not bad at all yet.

Been a while, been busy with work and such. Back to business.

Beautiful work bro, unreal.

nice render  what renderer do use? and what metallic material you use in your model? keep it up

Oh yeah! Here we go again. Thought you had given up, but I’m glad to see this grow again. The boots look great, nothing to remark! :+1:

There are people waiting…The Torcher’s pants?

Perhaps they got burned?

before i read your “intro” to your work i saw the pictures in page 4 and i thought to myself “damn!! it’s really looking like one of GoW characters” and then i saw your intro and understand :sunglasses:
anyway
good luck with your work at Epic!
great job your doing here
keep them coming :+1:

Hey, not burned. The tailor has just been busy making pants for other people :stuck_out_tongue:

Sorry been so busy with work and finishing up a contract for a client. But I think all that is complete and I can start working on this some more. Thanks for the interest.

Freak - I don’t work for Epic and am not affiliated with them in any way. I am just making this in the style of their Gears of War game. Sorry if I gave the impression I work there. Those guys are much much better than me.

jeez thats elite

how do you do the bolts?

and also how do u make the plates of armor so straight, like i can only do curves on ears, cant get much sharper than that…

Back at it

odhinn - Thanks

pao008 - I am currently rendering with Vray and an HDRI in the reflection for the metal

Marshall2006 - Thanks. I made one bolt and use a script from script spot called advanced painter to geometry paint on the rest. As far as the straight armor please keep in mind that this is just max poly modeling so far. I use a lot of beveled edges to get the nice tight edging.

Body05.jpg

It looks like he’s wearing his invisibility-pants!

Nice you’re at it again; the new work is again slick & crisp! Soon we’ll see the whole figure… Are you still going to use Zbrush on it?
