Projection master painting seems to be broken. I’ve tried painting a 4096 image texture but when I pick the model up again the textures gets completely messed up.

Whatever happened to the alt-rotate function? (where you hold alt, or control, I forget, and it changes the rotation axis to rotate perpendicular to the screen)
I could really use that right about now…
the problem of the zscript tutorials

other problem is:
about topology , when i start draw zsphere
3 General controls
(click means a standard mouse click, i.e. using the left button.)
there are alot of bugs, and some things that seem to be bugs are aplenty,im sure the plogic people will get around to updating them, this is a great application but all the workarounds that the senior members have mentioned are like sound bites from the rosetta stone, the UI is unique and has to be addressed sequentialy, so wheres the instruction manual for this stuff, i might be the only one but im floundering here, i need an instruction manual that has sections that cover the use of every aspect of this software, this site is a great resource and i have yet to be ogered by anyone for posting the exact question that was just answered a day ago on another post, thank you, but i dont want to wait for a gnomon guru to disect this and sell me the instruction 3 months from now for “yet another $ 80.00”,
MANUAL.
have been noticing this from day one.
for example the rigging block in zsphere menu gives no first hand help info about the buttons.
i m a great admirer of this zbrush feature coz it helps alot during work. u dont have to go to in depth helps and tutorials. specially wen we dont have new manual and fulltraining avaiable.
it cud have been updated pretty easily i guess. it looks to me that zb3 is released haphazzrdly…
I’m sure there will be additions to documentation.
It should be. It’s just that I remembered from one of them training DVDs that after a long zbrush with symmetrical on, both sides won’t match up due to small tolerance that builds up during editing. The vid then proceeds to smart resym and the model shifts quite a bit. This happened to me several times and it’s quite annoying to have your mesh don’t re-sym well.
Thanks feureau, that’s interesting. It’s also very bad. I’d also love if someone from Pixologic could explain this, and if it’s correct behaviour.
perhaps Reactor should compile it all in the first post. As the list grew longer, its harder to keep track.
Thanks for the great thread!
Just the heads up on Image Plane 3 update:
http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=46396
This allows images to be imported as backgrounds for ZProject polypainting without going out of Edit mode.
That’s one amazingly handy zscript! Feel free to tackle any of these other things in zscript form any time you like Thanks for your hard work, marcus.

Whoops, almost missed where you mentioned this. I’ll do that, but I’ll give it a day or so more, mainly because I thought people might like to include a few of the topology tool quirks… of which there seem to be a fair few (as seen in the topology thread). If no one posts them, I’ll traul through that thread when I have a bit more free time and then update the first post.
Here are some things I’ve noticed:
ZScripts where editing of topology is used don’t play back correctly.
Show actions will only highlight the main pallette but won’t show the individual tool or slider being used.
The multi-marker tool seems to be almost completely hosed.
This one is only critical if you’re using the 2.5D painting features:
Using the Z displace slider to displace a Layer backwards [positive Z direction] will eventually hide the Layer behind the clipping plane. The clipping plane depth varies with canvas size and there’s no warning that it’s been reached. The difference in ZBrush 2 was that by displacing the other way you could get back your Layer contents. In ZBrush 3, it is gone for ever.
Crap. Thanks for the heads up on this !
You can find out the clipping plane depth by dragging from the Z slider in the Picker palette to the empty canvas. That will at least tell you what figure you need to keep in mind. But don’t forget that the displace sliders are accumulative rather than absolute.
I’d like to add another thing that I forgot that Bingo_Jackson brought up on another thread:
Heh, thats not quite what I said. I just observed that of the few times I had seen a a memory error, it had been after Idling out of window for a long time then quickly trying to so some heavy lifting…like going from 1.x mil subd to 6.x sub D, and they had caused errors in my tool…though not as severe as your blow up. Ive done plenty of idling with no issues.
Its just unscientific observation on my part, could just be local to my system/configuration, and I wouldnt want to classify it as a verified ZB “quirk”, just yet.
When working with heavy meshes, Z2 used to spew memory error notices at me because of the “quirk” in memory handling on the windows system…they could be ignored most of the time. I was just observing that memory errors in Z3 are a serious ( and thankfully rare ) event, and if you dont crash, you should restart and reload your tool from a previous save.
One “quirk” I will mention, is that the “Initialize Zbrush” function in the preferences doesn’t seem to be resetting the menu items…or at least not as many as it should be. Some unstored preference settings and the brush settings do not revert. I haven’t done a comprehensive check yet to see if its not working at all in this regard, or only here and there.
Tools are purged as normal.
Uh, I don’t think that’s right Marcus, I’ve been doing lots of z-plane shifts and I haven’t lost anything yet. Gone forever? That would be horrible.
BTW, I think the Zclipping plane is double the horizontal canvas width.

reactor u r doing a great job and
marcus thanx for the script update
i think things are gonna be perfact in next couple o weeks but offcourse reactor’s efforts to compile such a list wil be helpful for pixologic…
Here’s a big one that is a guaranteed crash (as illustrated here): If you try to import a low resolution mesh that has been saved from an external program (like max or maya) into a Ztool that has multiple subdivision levels, ZBrush will crash without any type of indication of why.
Not really a quirk so much as a bug, but I figured it’d be worth posting in here too. Also, I added it to the wiki.
Also, you might want to consider putting all of these in the first post as they are mentioned, for easier referencing… kind of hard going through each page to see if something has already been mentioned by somebody else.
