I was wondering if I may get some takes on this. I know there are several users here that use a tablet with Zbrush. Are the results better and what size tablet do you use.
I went shopping and seen all kinds of sizes. Of course bigger is better but price comes into play. My question is on some of the smaller (ones 6x8), will this limit my size of use. Does that mean i can only do that size?
Sorry if this sounds clueless but I know nothing about them.
Thankzā¦
Your tablet size does NOT affect you work size.
Itās really a matter of taste and comfort. I like having my tablet in my lap while I work. I have a wacom graphite pro, with an airbrush stylus and the stylus pen.
You have preferences within the software side of a tablet to set how your drawing surface relates to what you are seeing on the monitor.
Itās just a matter of getting used to the āfeelā. Takes about 1 minute.
Neoz, I use an A6 wacom tablet and it is excellent - I would never entertain the thought of using a mouse with Zbrush. A tablet is an essential purchase IMHO. It will also open new avenues with painting software too (trying to use Painter with a mouse is pointless). Size is not as important as you might think (not when it comes to tablets anyway!) and I decided that the large increase in price when you step up to the larger tablets wasnāt something I could justify. I paid Ā£70 for my tablet a couple of years ago (about US$100)
Thankz for the replies⦠Is it safe to say Wacom is the way to go?
Another question, I found this tablet from Aiptek for only 129.00usd.
http://www.aiptek.com/products/pctablets/12000u.htm
Way cheaper then Wacom, are they bad??? Anyone know from experience. Or should I stay with Wacom. I know I know, get what you paid for right.
IMHO Wacom is the way to go. I have a proprietary Aiptek on my old computer. I hated the thing. My new Wacom Intuos though is a Godsend! I have the 9 x 12. The size will not affect your workspace. The only bonus to the large size is that you get the 4D mouse and it is easier to use if you have a naturally ālargeā brush stroke when you draw. It works great for me because I do tend to make long exagerated brush strokes when I am drawing. As far as using it with ZBrush I can not imagine doing it any other way now.
Neoz, I got a factory refurbished 6"x8" Wacom Intuos last year and have only regretted NOT GETTING IT SOONER! Could NOT tell it wasnāt brand new, was probably new in a cosmetically damaged box and repacked in a new one. Works PERFECTLY, GREAT for Zbrush, GREAT for Photoshop and Painter, and anything else graphically. It unlocks capabilities in Photoshop and Painter you cannot possibly access without it.
Really sucks on games, thoughā¦
Thankz for all the input! Looks like Wacom is the way to go. Thankz again for all help everyoneā¦
i have one but for some reason could never get used to it. all my work is done with the mouse
I have an 8x5 Intuos but Iām looking into the Airbrush instead (or as-well-as) the normal pen.
Anyone use one? Whats the main difference?
I also had a little Graphire that I used before the wacom and that performed well for a cheaper option. I believe that TRUST now make a very cheap but reliable range of Tablets now.

I donāt have the airbrush yet Glen but I think I will get it for Fatherās Day. You should ask Kathy about it. I believe she has one.
I think Iāll get one anyway.

i have a question about tablets as well. My birthday is coming up this summer and i really would like to have a tablet. The only problem is that tablets are pretty expensive. I was wondering if there are any tablets that are inexpensive yet are fairly good.
Hi LWTB - I think you could do worse than following Southernās advice above. I too have an A5 Graphire tablet, which was not too expensive and serves me well. Before buying it, I worried that it might be too small, but as Kathy said, in this case size does not seem to matter much.
Thank you for your kind comments on my first ZPainting. That was done using the Graphire.
The only problem Iāve found is that (most of the time) the ZBrush tool tips donāt show up when I hover the pen over the icon - which is a bit of a bummer for a complete newbie like myself. Luckily, however, although naturally right-handed, for some reason Iāve always used my left hand for the mouse, even when drawing. So for a while it will be a two-handed affair until i get to know the brushes better.
Hope you get your birthday wish.
