Swim away

Still looks a bit misproportioned. What screen resolution are you using? Maybe your models are appearing elongated on your screen?

If you’ve never looked at body proportions before, you should pop down your local book store and see what they’ve got in the Art Theory section. All you want is a beginner’s book on drawing the human body, because that will show the classic ‘canons’ … proportions based on the distance between scalp and chin. I’ve put links to a couple of small versions below. Good luck!

This gives youa idear as well. http://www.fineart.sk/show.php?w=1081

Thanks folks will have a go at that. And yes my screens are a bit elongated cause i mainly do post production and i got everything set up so that two standart pal screens get displayed on monitor.

Several hours of looking at it…and doing stuff to it…and some voodoo in the middle.
Think this is a keeper…dunno…u tell me…those links were killers. thanky.

Crits & Tips very welcomed.

Can you tell us where you are making these changes to the body as Im finding it hard to see them but thats only if your going for a anatomically correct look.

IMO the forarms need to be a little biger near the extensor carpi radius longus muscle I beleave the outer upper forarm. I can drawer legs over your picture if you dont mind to where I think they should be. The Thighs and shin needs to be longer in length. The head is looking nice.

Hi tez. If you look at it with the “head rectangle unit” in mind, you will see the proportions are dif then on any of the other pics. I actually found one 8 unit real life human, 3 7.5ers and a lot of 6’somethings on the street…but hey wtf…I’m up for anything. I used the units anyway. (and yes I even used rectangules to check it) I went for shorter then 7.5 cause somehow that seems to be average and not anyone “desearves” to be on a pedestal through the use of this little rule. Cause you cant really go round saying…hey dude your not anatomic enough…this just seems to be something derived from classical…prolly greek post helenic culture.
If you could do a draw over that would be great, if its not too much trouble.
Think swimmer…
Thanks.

Sitting here at my 'puter, I can lift my foot onto the chair seat so my heel is tight up to my bum, lean forward just a little, and touch my shoulder against my knee. Most of the bending is using my hip, though there is some tilt to my pelvis and stomach (lower spine). Where physically able to bend like your model, the best reference you have is your own self. Cheap too! I used to approach people on the streets with a tape measure and callipers, but the courts didn’t look too kindly on that …

Good luck.

 :+1:
I been measuring my family…they dont seem to complain but they stare at me while I do it…weird!!!

I used myself as a reference for my model which still is WIP.

Anatomically correct is a average which I asume your aiming at, personly all I need is my eyes to see if things are a out but a reference such as yourself is always handy. I find it easyer to see things as Im a bodybuilder and look for perfection in myself so pick up on certain things visualy. Im learning anatomy as I was way off on some things as still am. Im picking things up on my model that is not revealed to me what it is:bulb:

In the end its about what your happy with and if you think its how it should look then there are no rules to your creations and artistic idears.

I will draw over the picture when I got time this after noon but remember this is only a opinion. Seeing what youhave done so far shows some errors in my later creation a far as whats pleasing to my eyes. Keep it up.:+1:

This is Ian Thorpe, measured against your guy. Apparently, Mr Thorpe does a reasonable doggy-paddle. I’ve put some guidelines in to show you how the top half of your model is looking good, but how the lower half is out of proportion. hth.

Thats even more helpfull that a over drawing. Soa tad longer in the thigh and the rest from the shin with some calf enlargment.

Hope you dont mind me using your work exsample but here are the legs from my model, keeping in mind iv used only visual references not calculated ones.

Thanks Moochie, thanks tez.
Moochie…yep I would say he has a “reasonable doggy-style” lol. I see what u mean…now. Me blind.
tez, body building…cool. Well I cant really just look at people and say this should be like this…or the other way…I cant. And its not the lack of practice I actually had art history for some years…Its a bit of a problem for me really. Human shapes, specially faces.
I’m off to work now but will be back to try and improve my model based on these. Thanks folks. Very cool.

been watching this tread with intrest due to the original being quite a way out in proportion and i think you got it :).
a good ref should always be 1st thing when working from life imo nice work on the redo :+1: :+1: :+1:

Yup. Just a couple of things to watch out for from the picture of Ian Thorpe. First, he has famously large feet, so don’t replicate those. And his strap-on Hellboy stumps are probably unnecessary.

so these 2 blue bumps on my head aint normal?

If they’re blue, then you should call in sick in the morning. Antibiotics, def.

Bit of work done on it. Think I’ll go check the liquid simulators shelf and see what can be done with those.

That’s more like it! Good stuff. :+1:

Thanks Moochie, think i’ll get to do him a cloth speedo and then go round the water thingy, damn I have to go to work…oh well.
