Sculptris Pro’s uber handy for switching quickly between trying out details/refined forms and defining larger chunky polygon shapes in isolated areas, like the tail fins on him for instance.

Usually I pose using the Transpose Master plugin, but in this case Deformer Soft under the Gizmo came in handy to shape his tail and torso in smooth flowing shapes without having to rely on ZRemesher. A couple less steps, saves time :smiley:

Ah wireframes, I’m fairly certain the above image would make any modelling artist cringe, haha, but nonetheless I use these messy lines for interesting texture effects as I move into paintovers.

No BPR filters this time, :confused: Just the standard shadow, AO and SSS settings I usually use.

I’ve been trying to put together a ZBrush/Photoshop setup to render sculpts that look as if they were a sketch. This is 98% ZBrush, the other 2% being an adjustment layer in Photoshop to whack the image into an appropriate color space and value range.

Why even bother with this? Boredom as I mentioned above for one. The other reasons, eventually I’ll likely use this as a render pass to comp on top of paintovers for some outline effects and such. The other use case would be when I need multiple drawings of the same thing from different perspectives. I reckon something like this would serve as a good starting point. All of that and just to see how much I can push my understanding of the uber versatile BPR system.

Anyways, stay tuned for the next post, I’ll share the project files and breakdowns once I wrap things up with the notes and such. But if you’re curious meanwhile, attached to this post is the custom MatCap I used, :slight_smile:

Ahh, long time no sculpt nor a post. Sorry I disappeared from this forum for the better part of a year.
I got caught up in all the things that were going on at the time.

Working on a startup with a friend, going back to [online] school, an in-house job, leaving said job, losing all my data to a ransomware, relocation, and before I know it the year’s gone by.
Yup, nutty times, haha.

I was so focused on pushing my 2D skills that I hadn’t really sculpted anything for myself outside the job in a long while.
Anyways, sculpting this little one here was so therapeutic, I ought to remind myself to do it more often, :>

I’ll preface this by stating the fact that I was grinning like a mad man when the new NPR module was being demoed during the live stream event, haha :stuck_out_tongue:
This is one feature set that’s been at the top of my wishlist.

It is delightful to see all of the NPR experiments from fellow ZBrushers :smiley:
I finally downloaded the upgrade 2 days ago and have been tinkering with it over the evenings.

Anyways, below is a batch of explorations trying to emulate graphite on paper.








And another batch emulating wet watercolors.
Arguably, emulating paint of any kind is more of a challenge than emulating lineart but good fun nonetheless.





As much as I like how both of these experiments turned out, there’s room for improvement. Also unlike the previous “NPR” test I’d posted on this thread, these ones are 100% ZBrush, no Photoshop tailoring involved. For some reason that makes me happy, haha.

Nonetheless, I look forward to incorporating the NPR module into my workflow!
